Reliance held its 43rd Annual General Meeting virtually today. The company made a range of announcements, including Google’s investment in Jio Platforms. CEO Mukesh Ambani announced Jio’s 5G development from scratch with field deployment expected to happen next year.
At the meeting, Reliance also unveiled a mixed reality headset called Jio Glass. It is aimed to give an immersive experience to users for 3D interactions and holographic content. Let’s take a look at what the Jio Glass offers.
Jio Glass mixed reality glasses announced
Jio Glass features a sunglass type form factor and weighs only 75g. The mixed reality headset has two high-resolution displays in the place of lenses and the frame has vents for heat dissipation. There is a camera in the front of the headset. It also comes with a personalised audio system and supports all audio formats. The device is connected to the user’s smartphone via a single cable.
Reliance claims that Jio Glass will support 25 mixed reality apps. It can be used for 3D meetings, video calls, educational purposes and more. Users will also be able to share presentations with the reality headset. One can also make calls by saying ‘Hello Jio, please call (person A)’. Users can join video calls using holographic as well as 2D video call option.
In a statement, Kiran Thomas, President, Reliance Industries Limited said,’Jio Glass will help teachers and students come together in a 3D virtual rooms and conduct holographic classes through Jio mixed reality cloud in real-time’.
Reliance hasn’t revealed the availability and pricing of the Jio Glass as yet.
