Reliance Jio was the first telecom company to have announced that it will offer unlimited free calls for lifetime. After its massive debut last year, the operator has been providing free calls and internet service. However, just like most of the other operators in India, Jio will now be limiting voice calls to 300 minutes per day.
The news has been confirmed by Jio and they are citing potential misuse of their service for this action. According to Jio, some users are misusing this unlimited scheme and spamming users by making excessive promotional marketing calls. Although almost all of the telecom providers in India already have this limit, Jio has introduced it now.
However, an important condition to know before drawing any conclusions is: This limitation is not applicable for all Jio customers. It will only be applied to a selected user base which Jio thinks is misusing its unlimited service. This approach seems better than putting a restriction for all users and other telecom operators must take a note of this. Also, there will be no weekly restrictions for any users as of now.
Currently, there is no certain criteria provided by the brand which will make users fall into the category of limitation. However, users who currently make more than 10 hours of calls daily are likely to face the heat. It is still not confirmed whether adhering to a particular number of minutes will keep users away from this category but we might know about it soon.
