To begin the SIM porting procedure, please follow the step-by-step instructions below. 

  1. Go to www.jio.com
  2. Once you’re on the website, click the “Get Jio SIM” option. 
  3. Now, SMS “PORT <10 digit mobile number>” to 1900 from your existing number which you want to port.
  4. You will receive a unique porting number along with its expiry date.
  5. On the same page, enter your Full Name and your Mobile Number. 
  6. Click on Generate OTP. 
  7. Enter the OTP number in the pop-up window. 
  8. On the next screen, select your preferences. 
  9. Select “Port into Jio”> select “Prepaid SIM” or “Postpaid SIM”> Enter your address and other details > and finally place the order. 
  10. A Jio representative will visit the address on 2-3 to help you port your number. 
  11. Be prepared with Xerox copies of your ID cards to initiate the porting process. 

Port Airtel or Vi mobile number to Jio using the MyJio app

For users who want to port their family’s or friends’ number to Jio, they can do so by using the SIM porting services available on the MyJio app. This method is the same as the last one, but it is more convenient for users who already have a Jio SIM. Here is how you can port your mobile number to Jio using the MyJio app. 

  1. SMS PORT <space> 10 digit mobile number to 1900. 
  2. You’ll receive an OTP on your mobile phone.
  3. Open the MyJio app on your smartphone 
  4. Tap on the menu icon available at the top-left corner of the screen. 
  5. Scroll down and tap on the “Get Jio SIM” option. 
  6. On the next screen, enter your full name and the 10-digit mobile number. 
  7. Tap on “Generate OTP. “
  8. Enter the OTP.
  9. Now, you’ll see two options – Existing Number(MNP) and New Number.
  10. Select your SIM type as Prepaid or Postpaid, and then select any of the given plans for the first recharge. 
  11. On the next screen, enter your address and PIN Code and tap on Confirm. 
  12. In the “How would you like to get a SIM?” panel, tap on “Home Delivery.” 
  13. The “Home Delivery” service will cost Rs 100. 
  14. Select an appointment date from the on-screen calendar. 
  15. Tap on Review Order and check all the settings and preferences.
  16. Select “Confirm Order” to finish. 
  17. In the next 2-3 days, a Jio agent will visit the address mentioned by you. 
  18. Be ready with your documents and photographs to authenticate the porting process. 

Port Airtel or Vi mobile number to Jio through the Jio store

If you want to port your mobile number to Jio, the easiest and fastest way is to visit the Jio Store. The Jio employees will help you port your number. All you have to do is, carry your documents, ID, and the number you want to port. Here is what you need to do to port your number to Jio by visiting the Jio Store. 

  1. Open Google Maps and look for the nearest Jio store. 
  2. Carry a passport photo of yourself, along with a government-issued ID. (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, etc.)
  3. Ask the employees if they can help you port an Airtel Number to Jio. 
  4. Register yourself as a user and provide the documents required by the agents. 
  5. Remove the old SIM and install the new Jio SIM. 
  6. As you’re porting your number to Jio, your actual mobile number will remain the same. 
  7. Wait for at least three business days for the porting process to finish. 
  8. Once completed, you’ll get a signal bar on your smartphone. 

Jio MNP: documents required

As stated above, you only need a handful of documents to port your mobile number to Jio. These documents include PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, password size photo, or any other government-recognized ID. Along with these, you also need to provide valid proof of address and a secondary mobile. Furthermore, you need to make sure you have no outstanding dues pending from Airtel Prepaid and Postpaid connections. 

Jio MNP: eligibility

In order to port your Airtel number to Jio, you’ll need a UPC (Unique Porting Request) number. There are some eligibility criteria to receive UPC, which are as follows

  • No pending dues from Airtel or any other mobile operator with the number.
  • Please make sure the current operator’s network is not less than 90 days.
  • The porting of the selected mobile number is not prohibited by the court of law.
  • The mobile number sought to be ported is not sub-judice.
  • There are no pending contractual obligations by both parties. 

How to track the MNP status?

The subscriber will be informed about every state of the porting process through SMS. From deactivation of the old SIM to registration of the new, the subscriber will be informed about the process on the number he/she has provided during the initial period of porting. Once the porting process is completed, the subscriber will receive the notification on the new SIM and the reference number given at the time of porting.

Usually, it takes up to three working days for the porting process to complete. In the case of public holidays, the porting process can take up to 3-5 days. In the process of porting the SIM, your old SIM card will stop working after a given time and then you can install the new SIM card to finish the process. 

What is UPC?

If you want to port a number from one operator to another, telecom regulators authenticate the process by generating a Unique Porting Code (UPC). This number is only generated when the porting user is eligible to port his/her mobile number. Upon each request, a Unique Porting Code (UPC) will be valid for 4-15 days from the date of applying. 

How to get UPC?

You can obtain a UPC by sending an SMS to the telecom regulator. SMS PORT<10 digit mobile number> to ‘1900’ from the mobile number you want to port. Upon receiving the port request, the operator will send an auto-generated 8-digit UPC. You can use this code for 15 the next 15 days.
