- Jio scraps all the prepaid plans with the free Disney+ Hotstar access
- However, Jio postpaid users can still enjoy OTT plans with free access to Netflix and Prime Video
Jio was among the first telecom operators to offer free OTT subscriptions, especially Disney+ Hotstar, with their prepaid recharge plans. The telecom giant used to provide several recharge plans that bundled subscriptions Disney+ Hotstar. Over time, the number reduced to only two recharge plans with free Disney+ Hotstar access. However, now the telecom giant has scrapped those plans too.
As a result, Jio is not offering prepaid recharge plans with Disney+ Hotstar or any other OTT subscription. So if you are looking for a prepaid plan bundled with Disney+ Hotstar, you will have to look at other telecom operators like Vodafone Idea and Airtel.
The reason behind removing all the plans with the Disney+ Hotstar subscription is still unclear. Especially while its rivals like Airtel and Vi are still offering free access to Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar and others.
This time Disney+ Hotstar does not have the rights to stream the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The rights were acquired by Viacom 18, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries’ TV18. That’s why we assume the plans may have been scrapped due to a conflict of interest.
However, we are expecting new OTT plans from the telco shortly. Besides, if you have Jio’s postpaid connection, you can still enjoy Netflix and Amazon Prime Video as a part of all the plans starting at Rs 399.
