- JioPhone 5G is said to be in the works
- Leak states that it has Snapdragon 480 and a 5,000mAh battery
- It is expected to arrive in multiple variants
Forthcoming JioPhone 5G’s specifications have been leaked by Android Central. It will be Jio’s next smartphone after the JioPhone Next, which was announced in collaboration with Google in 2021. While there is no 5G network yet in India, Jio is reportedly aiming to introduce its 5G connection in limited cities in the country later this year.
The publication has claimed that the affordably priced JioPhone 5G’s arrival will coincide with the launch of Jio’s 5G service. It added that the telecom operator aims to launch the JioPhone 5G in multiple SKUs. It is expected to arrive in multiple variants offering different screen sizes and specs. Shown below are leaked specs of one variant of the JioPhone 5G.
JioPhone 5G specifications (rumoured)
The JioPhone 5G will feature a 6.5-inch display that will offer an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1,600 pixels. It will come with a front camera of 8-megapixel, and it will be fitted with a 13-megapixel (main) + 2-megapixel (macro) dual-camera setup on the back.
The Snapdragon 480 chipset is expected to fuel the JioPhone 5G, which will bring support for 5G bands such as n3, n5, n28, n40, and n78. The support for these bands indicates that the handset may receive Jio’s 5G coverage across India. The SoC will be coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. For additional storage, it will feature a microSD card slot.
The device will run on Android 11 (Go edition) with a custom Jio launcher and some tweaks for Jio devices. Hence, it is expected to carry support for multiple Indian languages, instant translate through Google Lens and Google Translate, read-aloud text, and always-on Google Assistant. It will also feature Jio’s suite of apps such as MyJio, JioTV, JioCinema, and JioSaavan.
The JioPhone 5G will be a dual SIM phone, which will pack a 5,000mAh battery. The device will carry support for 18W fast charging through a USB Type-C port. For security, it will be equipped with a side-facing fingerprint scanner. It will come with other features like Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, GLONASS, and NavIC.
As far as the design of the JioPhone 5G is concerned, the publication claims that it will feature a punch-hole display with slim bezels and round edges.
JioPhone 5G price in India, launch date (rumoured)
The JioPhone 5G is likely to be priced between Rs 9,000 and Rs 12,000, which suggests that it may debut as India’s most affordable 5G phone.
