The Jio Phone Next has been announced at the recent 44th Reliance AGM 2021. Notably, the Mukesh Ambani-led company had announced a partnership with Google at last year’s AGM held in June. Now, the company has announced its affordable Jio Smartphone Next in partnership with Google. Jio claimed that the Jio Phone next will be the most affordable smartphone in India as well as globally.

Jio is known for offering cheap mobile recharge plans to its users and with the Jio Phone Next, Ambani says that everyone in the country will have access to a smartphone. Jio didn’t reveal much information about the Jio Phone Next like its technical specs, however, the design of the handset was shown off. The JioPhone Next will be a plastic-clad smartphone with a single camera and speaker on the back and huge bezels on the front. The smartphone seems to be featuring a compact form factor. It appears to sport a removable back panel, but we can’t confirm this.

As for its features, the smartphone will boot an optimised version of Android, presumably to be able to run smoothly on basic hardware. Additionally, the smartphone will have features like a voice assistant, automatic read-aloud of the text on screen, language translation, a smart camera with AR filters, and more. Jio has announced that the Jio Phone Next will boot an extremely optimised version of Android OS, which is designed to run smoothly on budget smartphones.

Jio Phone next will let users quickly translate any text on the phone display and read it aloud in their preferred language with a single tap of a button. Users can also point their camera on a text to translate in real-time. This will help users who want to read any content in their vernacular. Read aloud and Translate Now are system-wide features, which means they work with any text on the display.

Speaking of the camera, Jio claims that it has worked closely with Google to optimise the camera module. The Jio Phone Next offers dedicated night mode, HDR, and Snapchat Lenses. According to Jio, the integrated Snapchat Lenses will offer India-specific AR filters to users. The Snapchat Lenses button is situated right next to the shutter button in the camera UI.

The Jio Phone Next will also come with system-wide Google Assistant as part of App Actions. The telecom operator has also announced that the Jio Phone Next will get new features and optimisations with regular OTA updates.

JioPhone Next price, availability

Jio Phone has not yet announced the pricing of the JioPhone Next in India. However, it has confirmed that the smartphone will be the most affordable offering in India as well as globally, and we expect it to be priced around the Rs 2,500 mark going by past reports. The new launch will be available in India starting September 10th to mark the festival of Ganesh Chathurthi.
