- A victory for Kantara as Kozhikode District Court lifts the ban on song usage
- The ban levied by the Palakkad District Court is still active
- Varaha Roopam’s song from the movie has been slapped with plagiarism charges
Kantara, the Kannada blockbuster film released on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video on November 24, 2022. The movie is streaming in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam audio languages with English subtitles. Netflix has bagged the Hindi rights of Kantara. As soon as the film started streaming online on Prime Video, a major chunk of viewers were left disappointed and dissatisfied because the original song, which was the soul of the movie, and its climax, ‘Varaha Roopam’, was modified in the movie.
Kantara Song Varaha Roopam Plagiarism Issue
The track ‘Varaha Roopam’ faced plagiarism charges, and it was accused that the song had been plagiarized from a Kerala-based band Thaikkudam Bridge’s song titled ‘Navrasam’. Kozhikode District Court and Palakkad District Court passed an interim injunction restraining the use of the song theatrically and on the OTT platforms. Even Kerala High Court, earlier dismissing the petition challenging the restraining order, had asked the production house, Hombale Films, to avail alternate remedies. Thus with this order passed, Kantara released on the OTT platforms with a new version of the song yesterday.
A Win For Varaha Roopam At Court: Kozhikode District Court Dismisses The Restraining Plea
Fans were left disheartened that the original song ‘Varaha Roopam’ was not a part of the movie on the OTT platform Prime Video. But the tables have turned now. The Kozhikode District Court earlier today dismissed the plea. The Kerala court returned the plaint citing a lack of jurisdiction. The plaint was filed by Thaikkudam Bridge against Hombale Films. The interim restraining order passed earlier against the use of the song stands dismissed at least in one court. It is a victory, though not a complete clean sweep victory yet.

What Happens To The Palakkad District Court Order Against The Use Of ‘Varaha Roopam’
The order by Palakkad District Court against the use of the song ‘Varaha Roopam’ is still in effect. The restraining order still stands, and until this order is dismissed too, the song cannot be a part of the film Kantara. Fans are hoping that the Palakkad District Court too lifts the ban order. Now all eyes are on the Palakkad Court, waiting for its verdict.
