Kult Ambition Launched: An Ambitious Attempt to Capture the Entry Level Smartphone Segment

In August 2017, Kult released its first smartphone in India which was dubbed as the Kult Beyond. Since then, the company’s motive has been clear – to mark its presence in the entry-level segment. All phones launched by the company bear a price tag just shy of the Rs. 7000 mark. The Kult Ambition, however, takes it one step further and has been launched at a price of Rs. 5,999. Is this a truly ambitious phone by the company? Let’s find out.

Design and Display

The phone looks just like its competition in this price range. It measures at just 9.1mm in thickness which is also pretty decent. The phone sports a fingerprint sensor on the back as well, which most entry-level smartphones lack.

Coming to the display, the Ambition is fitted with a 5-inch HD IPS panel. The display offers a resolution of 1080 x 720 pixels, thereby reaching a pixel density of about 294 pixels per inch. The phone’s front is also layered with 2.5D curved glass which makes the edges of the screen feel smoother, adding to the user experience.

Performance and Storage

Underneath its skin, the Kult Ambition is powered by a 1.25 GHz Mediatek MTK 6737 processor mated to 3GB of RAM. At this price point, this is pretty impressive and can be compared to a much premiumly priced Zenfone 3 Max by Asus. The phone will ship with 32GB of internal storage to which another 32GB space can be added through a microSD card.

Cameras, Battery and Connectivity

In the optics department, Kult has provided the Ambition with a 13-megapixel primary camera located on the back. The camera is coupled with an LED flash for capturing images in low-light. On the front is a 5-megapixel camera which is also coupled with LED flash for capturing selfies in poor lighting.

The phone draws power from a 2,600 mAh Li-ion battery which isn’t bad, though you could get a bigger battery in some of its competitors.

In terms of connectivity, the Kult Ambition offers all the standard solutions including WiFi, 2G, 3G, 4G with VoLTE and Bluetooth. On the bottom of the phone is a micro USB 2.0 port for charging and transferring data to and from the device.

The latest offering by Kult will be available exclusively through Amazon India starting December 11th. The phone will be available only in a Black colour variant.

Although the phone is priced very low, the phone from Kult will go against a very strong competitor – the Redmi 5A. The Redmi 5A was launched by Xiaomi just last week and really has heated up the entry-level market. The Kult Ambition, however, comes with some features that Xiaomi’s offering doesn’t, like the fingerprint sensor. The Kult Ambition also features a better processor than the 5A. With this, the Ambition might just be a worthy rival to the popular entry-level champ.
