IFA 2019: LG G8X ThinQ and Dual Screen accessory announced

At the ongoing IFA 2019 tech trade show, LG has announced the LG G8X ThinQ and the updated DualScreen accessory. The G8X ThinQ is the company’s first phone to sport an in-screen fingerprint reader, whereas the new Dual Screen is an updated edition of the original Dual Screen flip case that was announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019.

LG G8X ThinQ Specifications and Features

The LG G8X ThinQ measures 159.3 x 75.8 x 8.4mm and weighs 192 grams. The front and rear sides of the phone are protected by Gorilla Glass 6. The G8X ThinQ is an IP68-rated dust-proof and water-proof device. The MIL-STD 810G rated body ensures that the phone withstand harsh climatic conditions too.

The LG G8 ThinQ that was unveiled earlier this year featured a wide notch with sensors for face unlock, palm gestures and Hand ID. The new G8X ThinQ has a 6.4-inch OLED FullVision display with waterdrop notch. It does not feature support for palm gestures and Hand ID. The OLED screen is integrated with a fingerprint sensor. The display produces full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

The Snapdragon 855 mobile platform fuels the LG G8X ThinQ. It is assisted by 6GB of RAM. The handset carries an internal storage of 128GB and there is a microSD card slot for additional storage. Android 9 Pie comes pre-loaded on the device along with the latest LG UX 9.0.

The notch has a 32-megapixel selfie camera with f/1.9 aperture and a 79-degree field of view. The horizontal dual camera system of the phone has a 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 78-degree field of view, and a 13-megapixel superwide lens with f/2.4 aperture and 136-degree of field of view.

The LG G8X ThinQ is packed with a 4,000mAh battery that carries support for Quick Charge 3.0 technology. It is equipped with a dedicated hardware button for accessing Google Assistant. There is support for 32-bit Quad DAC and DTX:X 3D Surround Sound on the device. It also features a 3.5mm audio jack. The connectivity features available on the G8X ThinQ are Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and USB Type-C.

LG Dual Screen

The LG Dual Screen flip case has a 6.4-inch OLED FullVision display that offers full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. It also features an additional small-sized monochrome display of 2.1-inches. The flip case is equipped with a 360-degree hinge that makes is possible to view it from different angles. Its dimensions are 165.96 x 84.64 x 14.99mm and it weighs 134 grams.

The Dual Screen allows users to use its display as a second screen which can serve as a gamepad controller, a large-sized on-screen keyboard to access two apps one each screen.

There is no battery inside the DualScreen accessory. When the LG G8X ThinQ placed in the case, the second screen will draw power from the G8X’s battery. The G8x ThinkQ is docked inside the Dual Screen using a USB connector, compared to the pogo pin connecters of the previous version.

LG G8X ThinQ and DualScreen Pricing and Release Date

LG has not confirmed the price and release date of the LG G8X ThinQ and Dual Screen. Both are expected to go on sale before the end of the year. These devices can be availed in an Aurora Black colour. The G8X ThinQ will be available in South Korea under the LG V50S ThinQ moniker.
