LG has announced two new smartphones, just a few days before MWC (Mobile World Congress) kicks off this year. These devices are the LG K8 (2018) and LG K10 (2018), upgrades to phones launched with the same name last year, just with 2017 in their model names. They were launched in CES 2017 but LG has decided for an MWC launch this time. LG has officially announced them a bit prior, probably to create some initial buzz before the event. Let’s take a look at what these phones have to offer:
LG K8 (2018)
The LG K8 is the lower-priced younger sibling of the two. It comes with a 5-inch HD display bearing a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The pixel density of the device is close to 300 PPI so you can expect a decent multimedia experience.
The K8 runs on a 1.3GHz quad-core processor which works together with 2GB of RAM to offer a seamless multi-tasking experience. The phone runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box and might get updated to Oreo sometime soon.
Talking of the cameras, the device comes with an 8-megapixel rear sensor accompanied with an LED flash. On the front, you get a 5-megapixel sensor for clicking selfies and making video calls. LG’s native camera app is packed with various features like Auto Shot, Gesture Shot, Quick Share and much more.
The LG K8 has got 16GB of internal storage which you can expand via a microSD card but only up to 32GB. It has all the basic connectivity options that you would expect from a phone in 2018. Under the hood, there’s a 2500mAh battery unit that powers the phone.
LG K10 (2018)
The LG K10 is the superior model among both the devices. It comes with better internals but holds a strong resemblance with K8’s design. The phone has three different variants, all of which bear a different name, the K10 (2018), the K10+ (2018) and the K10 Alpha.
The LG K10 2018 Alpha comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The LG K10 Plus has a similar camera setup like the LG K10. The only advancement is that it has a wide-angle sensor on the front. The LG K10 and K10 Alpha will come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the K10 Plus packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, rest of everything stays the same in all these devices.
The LG K10 has a 5.3-inch HD display. It runs on an octa core processor which means the multi-tasking and gaming experience of the phone shall be better than K8. LG hasn’t mentioned the processor name and model though. It runs on a 3000mAh battery unit which is decent but not the best you can get. Even this phone comes with Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box and will most likely get an update to Android Oreo.
The LG K8 and K10 will be launched globally in various markets including Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. We can expect the Indian launch of the phone sometime in March or April. Both will be priced in the mid-budget segment and the pricing will be revealed in MWC, stay tuned to get an update on it.
