LG Rollable could be the name of the first smartphone from LG with a rollable display. The smartphone could be the part of company’s Explorer Project, which saw the debut of LG Wing 5G as the first device. A fresh report by ET News has not only corroborated details of this device but also claims that it will go official on the first half of 2021.
LG released a wide range of smartphones this year, but it skipped out on launching a flagship phone. The new report states that LG will be back in the flagship arena with a phone codenamed as LG Rainbow. In addition, it is also expected to announce LG Q83 as a mid-tier smartphone in the first half of 2021.
Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola are the only mainstream brands that are selling smartphones with foldable displays. But OPPO and LG might beat these companies to launch phones with rollable display. According to the report, the LG Rollable will have a couple of advantages over foldable phones. The LG Rollable is said to be thinner and lighter than foldable smartphones.
The currently available foldable phones suffer from some sort of screen creasing problem. The report mentions that rollable display will not face such an issue on the LG Rollable. The LG Rollable screen can expand from 6.8-inch to 7.4-inch in size. A high-ranking official from a telecom operator who could use the LG Rollable said that its product usability is much better than foldable phones when the screen is stretched, it does not develop wrinkles or any sort of deformity.
Last month, OPPO became the first brand to showcase the OPPO X 2021 concept device as the world’s first rollable display phone. Since LG has been working on the rollable screen technology for a long time, it may become the first company to release a smartphone with a rollable display in the market. As mentioned above, the LG Rollable may go official in the first half of 2021.
LG Rainbow and LG Q83
The LG Rainbow flagship may get announced in March 2021. The company is likely to decide on its release date after its field tests are successfully conducted by telecom companies by the end of 2020 or early in 2021. The LG Rainbow with the regular bar-type form factor will be a premium flagship phone powered by the Snapdragon 888.
The LG Rainbow will be succeeding the LG Velvet and its older V-series flagships. Its design will be based on LG Velvet’s design. The device is also said to arrive with Wacom’s AES (Active Electrostatic) stylus.
The upcoming LG Q83 mid-range 5G phone will be offering users competitive specs at an attractive price. It will be sporting a unique design for its rear cameras. It is expected to debut in the first half of 2021 in South Korea and global regions. An executive reportedly said that the company managed to save production costs in 2020 and it will continue to mainly sell premium phones next year.
