LG Velvet to launch on May 7th, to feature Snapdragon 765 SoC and 48MP quad cameras

The South Korean handset maker, LG is moving in a new direction when it comes to its smartphone business, adopting new naming scheme and different design philosophy. The first step taken by the brand appears to be the upcoming mid-range smartphone called the LG Velvet. The company has already posted a couple of videos on its YouTube channel, the first one showcasing the design of the upcoming LG Velvet and the more recent one revealing the launch date. Moreover, a recent leak has also shed some light on the specifications of the LG Velvet. So, without any further ado, let’s take a look at what the upcoming mid-range smartphone has to offer.

LG Velvet launch date and colour variants

LG has shared a new teaser video on its South Korean YouTube channel with the title LG Velvet – Digital Unveiling Invitation. The video shows liquid drops falling and arranging themselves in the same arrangement as the raindrop camera module we saw in a past video. However, this time around the droplets reveal the colour variants of the LG Velvet, which are Red, Black, Green and White. Apart from this, the video reveals that the smartphone will be launched on May 7th in South Korea through an online event on YouTube and Facebook.

A past video has shown a clear look at the raindrop camera setup, where the main sensor juts out a little while the other two sit flush with the back panel. The teaser video also revealed that the phone will feature a tiny waterdrop notch. Other details include 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type-C port, Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC and more. LG Velvet specifications and features

While the company has confirmed the presence the Snapdragon 765 SoC and 5G connectivity, a recent leak has revealed a few more details. The processor will be accompanied by 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The camera setup on the back comprises of 48MP primary lens backed by an 8MP and a 5MP sensors. The tiny waterdrop notch on the front will be housing a 16MP camera. The phone will flaunt IP68 certification and will be powered by a 4,300mAh battery. As for the dimensions, it will measure 167.1mm × 74mm x 7.85mm and weigh 180g.
