The South Korean handset maker, LG has been teasing its upcoming mid-range smartphone called the LG Velvet for some time now. The last video teaser from the brand confirmed that the smartphone will be launched online on May 7th. Notably, the upcoming smartphone is exhibit A of new naming scheme and different design philosophy that LG will adopt going forward.
A couple of videos posted by the brand on YouTube revealed the design, Snapdragon 765G SoC and more recently, the launch date which is May 7th. However, it seems that the South Korean brand had different plans as it has now gone ahead and revealed the spec sheet of the LG Velvet through an official blog post in Korea. Here’s what the LG Velvet will offer out of te box.
LG Velvet specifications and features
The LG Velvet will ship with a 6.8-inch OLED display with 2,340 x 1,080 pixels screen resolution and a 20.5: 9 aspect ratio. Powering the the handset is the 7nm octa-core Snapdragon 765G processor backed by an Adreno 620 GPU. Accompanying the chipset further is 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage, which can be further expanded up to 1TB using a microSD card.
The handset will boot the Android 10 out of the box and will be powered by a 4,300mAh battery with fast charging support and 10W wireless charging. The smartphone features a 3D Arc design with gently curved corners and has a raindrop-inspired triple camera setup on the back.
Speaking of the camera setup, the LG Velvet is equipped with 48MP primary camera accompanied by 8MP ultra-wide lens, 5MP depth sensor and LED flash. The camera is loaded with features like Quad binning technology, Voice Out Focus, ASMR recording feature, and more. The tiny waterdrop notch in the front is housing a 16MP camera.
Other features of the handset include in-display fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, and Artificial Intelligence Sound that automatically analyzes the content being played and sets the optimal audio quality.
LG Velvet price and availability
LG has reserved the pricing for the online-only event that will be held on May 7th, therefore there’s no word on the pricing yet. The brand will offer the handset in Aurora White, Aurora Gray, Aurora Green, and Illusion Sunset colours. It will go on sale in South Korea starting May 15th. There’s no word on the global launch yet.
