South Korean brand LG shared a 30-second teaser video on its global YouTube channel announcing the launch of its upcoming device on September 14th. It is expected to be a dual-screen smartphone dubbed as the LG Wing. The event will be live streamed on the company’s Facebook and YouTube channels at 11pm KST (730pm IST).
In a press release, LG revealed that the upcoming smartphone will be a part of its ‘Explorer Project’ aimed to deliver ‘distinctive and yet unexplored usability experiences’. LG also said that it is working with partners including Qualcomm, Naver, Tubi and Ficto for viewing experience on the Explorer Project devices.
LG Wing could be a futuristic phone with a swivel display
The video teaser gives us a glimpse at LG’s Wing phone. It reveals dual displays with one screen rotating 90 degrees horizontally to form a T-shaped design. This could mean that the smartphone could be used in various form factors. Users can consume content on one screen horizontally and view the other one in a vertical position.
“LG has always been a pioneer in pushing the envelope of smartphone form factors, the only way to bring about much-needed innovation in the mobile market.” the company said in a statement. LG also highlighted that devices under the Explorer project will be unlike its Velvet series that falls under the brand’s Universal Line.
Not much is known about LG’s upcoming smartphone. However, reports suggest that the LG Wing could sport a 6.8-inch primary display while the second screen could measure 4-inches with a 1:1 aspect ratio. The device is rumoured to be powered by Snapdragon 765G processor and sport a 64MP camera. LG already offers dual-screen attachment to the LG Velvet and LG G8x ThinQ. The upcoming LG Wing could be an alternative to the foldable smartphones from Samsung, Motorola and Huawei.
