Apple MacBook Air with an M3 chip may launch this year. In 2022, the company unveiled a 13-inch MacBook Air with a redesigned chassis, Retina display, M2 chip, 1080p camera, quad speakers, MagSafe charging, and more. Back in June 2022, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed several M3-powered devices, including a 13-inch MacBook Air, were in the early stages of development. However, he did not mention anything about its launch timeframe.

A new report by DigiTimes has revealed that the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chip will launch this year. The currently available M2, M2 Pro, and M2 Max chips are built with a 5nm manufacturing process. However, the M3 will be a 3nm chip, thereby offering improved performance.

The publication has learned through industry sources that the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chip onboard will debut in the second half of 2023. Unfortunately, the report does not have any information on the specifications of the 2023 MacBook Air.

According to a separate leak by display analyst Ross Young, a 15-inch MacBook Air will be released this year. It is unclear whether it will also feature the M3 chip.

As compared to the M2, the M3 is said to be a more power-efficient chip with faster performance. According to reports, mass production of the M3 chip will begin in late December 2022. Apart from the M3 chip, the company is also expected to announce the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips. These are likely to power the next-generation 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models that are expected to release in 2024. It is speculated that the M3 Pro / Max powered iMac Pro with a mini-LED display may launch in Q4 this year.

In related news, Apple recently introduced the 2023 MacBook Pro and Mac mini models, which feature the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. It has also launched a full-size HomePod speaker.
