- The camouflaged test unit bears looks similar to the XUV300
- We also learn that the upcoming EV features a larger tailgate
- Mahindra is also expected to launch an EV based on the XUV700 SUV
Following multiple leaks, a fully-camouflaged version of the upcoming Mahindra XUV400 EV has been spotted on the roads. We’ve come across the new moniker in previous reports, though this is our first glimpse of the automobile in action. As initially believed, the new XUV400 EV will bear some resemblance to the standard XUV300, barring some minor changes.

The video comes from the YouTube channel Auto Comparo, which highlights the EV from multiple angles. At 4.2 meters, the XUV400 EV will be slightly lengthier than the XUV300, BGR India reports. We also learn from the video that this EV will include a larger tailgate while rectifying one of the XUV300’s glaring omissions — boot space.
Meanwhile, the interiors appear to be indistinguishable from the XUV300, though this is likely to receive a facelift when it is launched. Based on earlier reports, the XUV400 EV will be officially unveiled in September, while deliveries could commence a few months later. Given the secrecy surrounding the EV, there’s still a lot we don’t know about it. But this newly surfaced video of the demo unit is plenty to go on for now.
Despite Mahindra staying ahead of the curve in terms of EVs, the competition is much stiffer now, particularly with the arrival of new entrants, including the Kia EV6, and the recently unveiled Volvo XC40 Recharge. Moreover, manufacturers have to consider the Tata Nexon, which rates among the most successful EVs in India. Mahindra is also expected to reveal the electric version of the XUV700 SUV, so it could be a viable contender to Tata’s EV crown.
