Gujarat-based Matter Energy launches first geared-motorcycle: Features, range, expected price

Highlights

  • The manufacturer said it will open bookings for the vehicle in early 2023
  • Matter Energy expects to have this electric motorcycle available in major cities of the country
  • The e-bike also provides a roomy 5L glove box

Electric motorcycle startup Matter Energy has launched India’s first-ever geared electric motorcycle. The Ahmedabad-based company said it will begin bookings for this e-bike early next year, although no specifics were provided. Despite its nascency in the industry, Matter said it wants to have the motorcycle available in top cities of India.

To make things convenient for riders, the motorcycle is equipped with a 5-litre glove box, enough room to carry the dedicated charger supplied with the vehicle. The glove box also has a charging socket of its own, adding to the list of rider-centric features.

Matter Energy electric motorcycle features, battery, range

Autocar India reports that this unnamed motorcycle will feature three riding modes. However, the manufacturer is yet to divulge specifics about these modes, including their names. From a safety standpoint, the motorcycle is equipped with dual-channel ABS.

Matter is touting the presence of its 4-speed HyperShift gearbox (manual), paid with a 10.5 kW electric motor capable of delivering 520Nm of torque. There’s also a liquid-cooled and IP67-certified 5 kWh MatteryEnergy 1.0 battery with the ability to charge via a conventional 5A socket at home.

This e-bike can run between 125-150 kilometres on a full charge, according to the manufacturer. Charging via the aforementioned home 5A socket will take up to five hours, while there’s no information available on a fast charging option.

There are a total of four colours to choose from, including grey/neon, black/gold, blue/gold, and a combination of red, black, and white. Customers will also find some of the features that are heavily advertised by electric two-wheeler manufacturers, i.e. reverse parking assist.

Thanks to the presence of cellular connectivity, the Matter Energy motorcycle can receive over-the-air (OTA) updates whenever available.

Matter Energy electric motorcycle expected price and availability

The company said pricing information will only be available when the bookings commence during the first quarter of 2023. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if the e-bike is priced competitively, presumably in the Rs 1,30,000 to the Rs 1,50,000 range, pitting it against the likes of the Tork Kratos R. The manufacturer said deliveries will begin by April 2023.
