MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor has been launched. It is a mid-range chipset from a Taiwanese semiconductor company. The latest SoC arrives as the successor to the Dimensity 920. It comes with improved CPU speeds and camera performance.
MediaTek says that smartphones powered by the new Dimensity 1080 SoC will start shipping in the fourth quarter of 2022. Read on to know about the details of the processor.
MediaTek Dimensity 1080 specifications and features
The MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is based on a 6nm architecture. It is an octa-core processor that comprises two ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores clocked at 2.6GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores ticking at up to 2GHz. The SoC is coupled with Mali-G68 MC4 GPU onboard. The processor is said to offer a bump in CPU speeds and camera performance.
The Dimensity 1080 comes with support for LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage technology. It will feature a 120Hz Full HD+ display. On the photography front, the chipset can support up to 200MP camera sensors with no shutter lag. It also carries support for up to 4K HDR video recording. The latest chipset retains the same gaming-specific features from the Dimensity 920 i.e. HyperEngine 3.0.
Connectivity options on the Dimensity 1080 include sub-6GHz 5G networks, WiFi-6, and Bluetooth 5.2.
Smartphone makers haven’t announced upcoming devices to come with MediaTek’s latest chipset. However, Xiaomi Redmi’s Note 12 series is expected to be powered by Dimensity 1080 SoC.
