MediaTek All Set to Launch Helio G90, its First SoC for Gaming Smartphones

In the recent past, we have seen manufacturers offering gaming smartphones. Smartphone brands including Xiaomi, Asus and Nubia are trying to fill the void left by portable gaming consoles. Typically, the gaming-centric smartphones are powered by Snapdragon 855 and feature an advanced thermal management system. MediaTek has now jumped into the gaming bandwagon with Helio G90, a chipset meant for gaming-centric smartphones.

MediaTek has released the official teaser image and explains ‘G’ in Helio G90 stands for gaming. It is also understood that the G90 will belong to an entirely different family of MediaTek processors and will add to Helio A, Helio P and Helio X series of SoC’s. Unfortunately, MediaTek has not revealed other details. However, rumor mills are predicting that the new Helio G90 will come equipped with 12nm Octa-core CPU and a powerful GPU.

When it comes to gaming-centric devices, manufacturers opt for flagship SoC from Qualcomm. MediaTek is trying to challenge the status quo by introducing a new series of SoC aimed at gaming devices. The MediaTek Helio G90 is expected to be launched in Shanghai, China on the 30th of July. As of now, we don’t know on which handsets the MediaTek Helio G90 will mark its debut.

Qualcomm recently launched the Snapdragon 855 Plus, a chipset that offers better performance than the standard Snapdragon 855. The Snapdragon 855 Plus offers 15 percent performance boost and is expected to debut on the Asus ROG Phone 2 which is scheduled to be unveiled later this month.
