- MediaTek has announced new Helio G-series chipsets
- The Helio G96 and G88 are successors to the Helio G95 and Helio G85
- We can expect smartphones with the latest SoC’s to launch in the coming months
MediaTek Helio G96 and Helio G88 processors have been launched today. The latest chipsets arrive as the successors to last year’s Helio G95 and Helio G85 respectively. The chipmaker aims to offer smooth displays, advanced photography capabilities, and intuitive software experiences with the new processors.
The Helio G96 and Helio G88 are expected to be found on budget and mid-range smartphones. Commenting on the launch, CH Chen Deputy GM of Wireless Communication Products, MediaTek said, “MediaTek is continually advancing chip performance, speed, and reliability. These new Helio G series chips are at the core of incredible mobile experiences.”
MediaTek Helio G96 and Helio G88 processors launched
Starting with the MediaTek Helio G96, the processor will support 120Hz displays with up to FHD+ resolution for smooth display performance. The high refresh rate is also compatible with LCD and AMOLED panels. The chipset is capable of supporting up to 108MP camera resolution.
The Helio G96 is an octa-core CPU with two ARM Cortex-A76 clocked up to 2.05GHz. It supports LPDDR4x memory and UFS 2.2 storage. The SoC also features HyperEngine 2.0 Lite game technology. Connectivity-wise, the Helio G96 offers dual 4G SIM, 4×4 MIMO, and fast LTE CAT-13 performance.
As for the Helio G88, it is a toned-down variant of the Helio G96. The former is also an octa-core processor but with two ARM-Cortex A75 CPUs operating at 2.0GHz. It supports up to a 90Hz refresh rate display and a 64MP primary camera. The SoC also features a hardware depth engine for dual-camera bokeh captures, a camera control unit, and electronic image stabilisation. It offers dual 4G VoLTE and integrated voice wake-up. MediaTek says that the Helio G88 offers responsive reactions, fast app loading times and camera captures.
