Metro service has been running in Lucknow for almost five years now. It has 21 active stations. The fare starts from Rs 10 and goes up to Rs 60. Kanpur Metro Rail started operating on December 28th, 2021 after Indian PM, Narendra Modi green-flagged the first train. The Kanpur Metro operates from IIT to Moti Jheel covering 23 stations in total. The fare starts from Rs 10 and goes up to Rs 30. However, users can purchase a GoSmartCard, which offers a 10 per cent discount on every journey.

Notably, both Kanpur and Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) have been unified and renamed Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC). Later when Agra’s metro rail system will be functional, it will also be brought under this umbrella. The GoSmartCard that one purchases in any of these cities of Uttar Pradesh will function seamlessly across the state.

The GoSmartCard card can be purchased from the ticket office machines and excess fare offices in Kanpur and Lucknow. Users will have to pay a security deposit of Rs 100 and a Rs 100 minimum recharge for the first time. Below are the steps to recharge the Kanpur GoSmartCard or Lucknow GoSmartCard Metro card online.

  1. Visit the official Lucknow/Kanpur Metro Rail portal – Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited
  2. Enter the engraved card ID
  3. Enter recharge amount

  5. Make payment using a debit card, credit card, net banking or PayZapp
  6. Go to Add Value Machine (AVM) at the metro station and complete the top-up

How to check GoSmartCard balance online

Users can check their Kanpur metro card or Lucknow metro card balance through add-value machines, customer care centres, and automatic token vending machines. The exit gate while leaving the platform will also display the remaining amount.  Currently, Kanpur Metro doesn’t have the facility to check balance online.

Delhi Metro users can get a new metro card for Rs 150 including a refundable security amount of Rs 50.  Afterwards, the minimum value for recharge is Rs 200 and goes up to Rs 3,000. The validity of the Delhi Metro card is 10 years.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has introduced a new way for passengers to buy metro tickets. Using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), tickets can now be purchased at ticket vending machines (TVMs) and customer support centres. Passengers can also utilise mobile applications with UPI functionality on their smartphones to pay for metro card recharges and purchase Metro QR tickets across the Delhi-NCR network

  • Select the service for which you want to use the Ticket Vending Machine (TVM).
  • You will see several options to make the payment, select the UPI option
  • After selecting the UPI option, a QR code will appear on the screen, scan it within the time limit and make the payment
  • Once payment is complete and verified, you will get a ticket or your metro smart card will be recharged

How to purchase metro tickets using UPI customer support centres

Passengers can notify the customer support operator to process the payment via UPI. As before, a QR payment screen will be presented, allowing passengers to complete the recharge using the same steps mentioned earlier.

How to recharge Delhi Metro card online

  1. Visit the official Delhi Metro Rail portal
  2. Enter the 12-digit card ID and recharge amount
  3. Enter the captcha and click on ‘Continue’
  4. Make payment using a debit card, credit card, net banking or Paytm
  5. Go to Add Value Machine (AVM) at the metro station and complete the topup

Delhi Metro users can also avail of Autope Smart Card service, which automatically tops up with Rs 200 every time the balance goes below Rs 100. The amount is then deducted from the user’s linked bank account. To avail of this service, users will need to download the Autope app and link their bank, credit card or UPI account to their account. First-time metro card buyers can get their Autope Metro Card home-delivered, whereas existing customers can link their cards with Autope but will have to visit the customer care centre within three days to have it activated.

Users can check their metro card balance through add-value machines, customer care centres, automatic token vending machines, and while exiting the metro. While swiping the card at the exit, the gate will display the current balance. Currently, Delhi Metro doesn’t have the facility to check balance online.

  2. Enter your Smart Card (CSC) number printed on the back of the card

  6. Select the payment gateway options and click on ‘Recharge’
  7. Provide your personal details including name, email id, and phone number
  8. Choose from credit card, debit card, and netbanking
  9. Make the payment
  10. You can now validate the topup from any of the metro station ticket vending machines after two hours

Keep in mind that your Mumbai metro card must have Rs 5 remaining balance to be able to recharge online. Additionally, the minimum recharge amount for the Mumbai metro card is Rs 100. The validity of the Mumbai Metro card is six months, which keeps extending with every recharge.

You can check your Mumbai Metro card balance through the Mumbai Metro Instacharge portal as well. Below are the steps.

  1. Visit the Mumbai Metro Instacharge portal
  2. Enter your Smart Card (CSC) number printed on the back of the card
  3. Re-enter the CSC number to confirm
  4. Enter the captcha and click ‘Confirm’
  5. On the next page, you’ll be shown the current balance

Hyderabad Metro Card

Hyderabad Metro Rail Smart Card can be purchased from a ticketing office at any of the metro stations for Rs 100. Of the Rs 100, Rs 50 is a one-time security deposit. The minimum recharge value is Rs 50 and the maximum amount is Rs 3,000. The card comes with a validity of one year. You can recharge your Hyderabad metro card online on the official website.

  1. Visit the Hyderabad metro card recharge portal
  2. If recharging for the first time, sign up by providing your name, smart card ID, mobile number, email ID, and password
  3. On the next page, choose the ‘Recharge’ option

  5. Click on ‘I agree’ checkbox and tap on ‘Recharge’ to proceed
  6. Choose from Paytm wallet, debit/credit card or net banking payment options

How to check Hyderabad metro card balance online

Currently Hyderabad Metro doesn’t have the facility to check the smart card balance online. Users can head to the nearby Metro station after 2 hours and check the details at Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) or Add Value Machine (AVM) by selecting the prepaid top-up option.

Bengaluru Metro Card

The Bangalore Metro Card, also called Namma Metro card can be purchased for Rs 50 from any metro station in the city. The Rs 50 is the charge for the card and users will need to top-up their card further with a desired amount to be able to travel. The card is valid for 60 days, which extends with every subsequent recharge. Below is the procedure for BMRCL recharge.

  1. Go to the official BMRC portal
  2. Click on the Quik Topup button on the homescreen
  3. Enter the Engraved ID (card number), recharge amount, email ID, name, mobile number, and captcha
  4. Click on ‘Next’

Once you have completed the transaction, you’ll need to visit the Automatic Gate (AG) at the nearest metro station to complete the Namma metro recharge process.

How to check Bangalore metro card balance online

Bangalore Metro doesn’t offer the facility of checking Namma Metro card recharge balance online as of now. However, customers can visit the nearest metro and check their balance at the Automatic Gate or at the Remaining Value Check Terminal (RVCT) near the Customer Card/EF.

Currently, there’s no way to check the Kolkata metro card balance online. Passengers will have to touch their Kolkata metro card on the Add Value Machine (AVM) in the metro station to check their balance.

Once you have recharged your metro card online, you will still need to visit the nearest metro station to complete the recharge and add the top-up value to your card. Below is the process to do the same.
