MG Motor showcases the flagship MG4 EV at the 2023 Auto Expo

Highlights

  • The MG4 EV was officially launched in July 2022, though it’s only available in international markets
  • MG Motor did not say when the EV would be available in India
  • This electric crossover is packed with high-end features and can run for up to 452km on a full charge

The 2023 iteration of the Auto Expo is officially underway, and we’ve already encountered a handful of EV launches. MG Motor took the wraps off the MG4 EV last year, a sporty crossover ideally suited for cities. The automaker has now unveiled the EV for the Indian market at the annual automotive event.

It’s worth noting that the manufacturer did not reveal launch-related details for the EV. However, showcasing it at the Auto Expo suggests that the company is at least contemplating its release in the country.

MG4 EV features, battery, and more

The EV is built on SAIC’s MSP (modular, scalable platform) and is globally available in 51 kWh and 64 kWh battery options, delivering up to 350km and 452km of range on a full charge. Keeping modern-day EVs in mind, the MG4 EV is compatible with 150kW DC fast charging systems.

In terms of power, the 51 kWh version can deliver 170hp and 250Nm of peak torque, while the larger variant generates 201hp and the same torque as the smaller option. Customers can also expect dual floating displays acting as the instrument cluster and the infotainment system, respectively. Other features include Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, a wireless smartphone charger, and ventilated front seats, to name a few.

It’s hard to speculate on a launch date for the MG4 EV since no information was provided by the company. Since the EV is already available internationally, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to predict a late 2023 release. Early estimates suggest the MG4 EV will start from Rs 50 lakhs.
