The Xiaomi Mi A1 was one of the most appreciated smartphones of the year. During the launch, Xiaomi and Google had promised that the phone will receive Android 8.0 Oreo update before the year ends. Recently, the brand has pushed out a beta update of Android Oreo to the Mi A1. This is made possible so quick because the phone belongs to Google’s Android One program that enables smartphones to roll out OS updates quicker than other phones. The new beta shows additions like support for fast charging, faster load times and much more. Let’s take a look at what this update has to offer.
With the update, the phone’s users observed subtle changes on the user interface front and surprisingly also on the hardware performance. The new software’s beta testers posted on Xiaomi’s MIUI Forum reporting smoother animations and quicker app loading times. With the update, the phone will now offer Oreo specific features like picture-in-picture mode, notification dots, smart selection and other minor under the hood improvements. The update is expected to bring improvements to the phone’s camera as well. To recall, the Mi A1 was one of the first smartphones to feature a dual-rear camera setup in the mid-budget price range.
The major highlight of the update has to be in the charging department. According to some testers, the phone now seems to charge relatively faster. According to one user, their phone charged from zero to hundred in 90 minutes as compared to 120 minutes required on the Mi A1 running Android Nougat. It is also worth mentioning that the user used a OnePlus 5T charger instead of the bundled one. In comparison, the Moto G5s Plus that features the same Snapdragon 625 processor as the Mi A1 allows for Turbo Charging. Motorola’s offering does come with a high output fast charger bundled, unlike the Mi A1.
The Mi A1 for those unaware was launched in September this year. It brought in the best of both worlds sporting the sturdy build quality from Xiaomi and the clean software experience from Google. It managed to do all of this without burning a hole in your pocket too! The phone was launched at a price of Rs. 14,999 and has since seen a permanent price cut. The effective price of the phone right now is Rs.13,999. At this price point, it makes the phone one of the most lucrative deals around.
With the stable update just around the corner, can Xiaomi manage to offer even more out of an already good smartphone? What are your thoughts? Do let us know.
