Mi Mix 2S Launched With Snapdragon 845, 8GB RAM & Dual-Rear Cameras

After teasing it for more than a month now, Xiaomi has officially launched the much awaited Mi Mix 2S at an event in Shanghai today. It’s a flagship device bearing top of the line specifications and boasting of all the trending features that a smartphone in 2018 is expected to come with. The device will be available in China from April 3 but there is no official word on its India launch. The phone starts at a price of CNY 3299 which roughly amounts to Rs. 34,000. Let’s take a look at what the new flagship from Xiaomi has to offer.

Design and Display

Mix series has always had phones that are completely bezel-less and the 2S takes that trend forward. The phone looks gorgeous owing to very thin bezels on all sides and a slightly bigger bezel on the bottom to accommodate the camera. The Mix 2S fits a 6-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It is available in two different colours: White and Black.

The Mi Mix 2S comes with a dual-rear camera setup. It consists of a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera coupled with another 12-megapixel telephoto lens. This will allow the phone to take portrait mode pictures and do much more. The brand also promises superior low-light pictures from the rear camera owing to the Dual-Pixel autofocus technology. It also supports up to 2x optical zoom. As per DXO Mark, a platform that ranks cameras, the Mi Mix 2S has got a photography score of 101, at par with the iPhone X and just 3 points short of the Galaxy S9 Plus.

On the front, the phone houses an 8-megapixel selfie camera on the bottom chin instead of positioning on the top. While taking selfies, you will be instructed to hold the phone upside down, as is the case with Mi Mix and the Mi Mix 2.

Performance & Storage

Talking of the performance, it has Qualcomm’s 2018 flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 845. The same processor that debuted with the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S9. This is currently among the best you can get in Android as far as performance is concerned. Xiaomi also claims that it has increased the AI performance of the phone up to 3X by making some optimizations.

There are three variants of the phone: 6GB RAM + 64GB storage (CNY 3299 ~ INR 34,185), 6GB RAM + 128GB (CNY 3599 ~ INR 37,291) storage and the highest one having 8GB RAM + 256GB storage (CNY 3999 ~ INR 41,446).

The Mi Mix 2S runs on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo which is customized with Xiaomi’s own MIUI 9. The phone also gets Face Unlock support and there’s a fingerprint sensor on the rear as a backup. Xiaomi has also partnered with Google to bring the ARCore technology in the Mi Mix 2S.

Battery & Connectivity

The Mi Mix 2S comes with a 3400mAh battery unit. It also supports wireless charging and complies with the Qi charging standard, which is widely popular. It is also compatible with Xiaomi’s Mi Wireless charger. The phone supports 43 global bands and offers connectivity in up to 226 regions. It has got all the basic connectivity options such as USB Type C port, GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth among others.
