The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold has launched today in China. It has arrived as the company’s foldable smartphone. The MIX Fold will be battling with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Huawei Mate X2 in China and other markets. Like the rival products, the Mi MIX sports an in-folding design.

The Mi MIX Fold offers users several innovative features. It is packed with the biggest foldable screen seen on a foldable smartphone, a tall aspect ratio external display, Snapdragon 888 SoC, 108-megapixel triple cameras with liquid lenses, and a massive battery.

The Mi MIX Fold has debuted as Xiaomi’s first foldable smartphone

The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold features an 8.01-inch AMOLED display with slim bezels. It offers a QHD+ resolution of 1,860 x 2,480 pixels, a 60Hz refresh rate, a 4:3 aspect ratio, 387ppi pixel density, a DCI-P3 color gamut, 10.7 billion colors, 600nits brightness, MEMC, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. According to Xiaomi, it is the largest screen available on a foldable smartphone. Placed on the front is a 6.52-inch AMOLED display with a punch-hole design. It offers a QHD+ resolution of 2,520 x 840 pixels, a 90Hz refresh rate, a 180Hz touch sampling rate, 700 nits brightness, and Dolby Vision support.

The Snapdragon 888 mobile platform is at the helm of the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold. It comes equipped with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The device houses a 5,020mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging. It lacks support for wireless charging. For heat dissipation, it features a Butterfly Cooling system, which includes several bendable graphite layers and a big vapor chamber. The Mi MIX Fold with high precision hinges with a magnetic steel plate.

The vertically aligned camera setup of the Mi MIX Fold includes a 108-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HM2 primary camera, an 8-megapixel liquid telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 123-degree FOV. The liquid lens has a flexible film that contains a transparent liquid, which can change shape like a human eye by means of a precision motor. Since it can function as a macro camera as well as a telephoto snapper, it supports 3x to 30x optical magnification. It also enables faster and accurate focus as per Xiaomi.

The cameras of the MIX Fold are powered with Surge C1 ISP, which is Xiaomi’s first image signal sensor (ISP). It runs three algorithms for autofocus, auto exposure, and auto white balance. It features a front-facing camera of 20-megapixel. The Mi MIX Fold is the first foldable smartphone to feature quad speakers that are tuned by Harmon Kardon.

The Mi MIX Fold runs on a modified version of MIUI 12 based Android 11 OS. For business users, the Mi MIX Fold offers a desktop mode, which gives brings a desktop experience with home screen icons, a start menu, a control center, and resizable windows. For top-notch security, the Mi MIX Fold offers one-tap stealth mode features that disable GPS, data, Wi-Fi, speakers, and other functions with just a single click. It is equipped with other features like dual SIM, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-frequency GPS, NFC, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a USB Type-C port.

The standard version of the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold features a Gorilla Glass back. The company is also offering a ceramic black back edition called the Ceramic Special Edition.

The Mi MIX Fold has arrived in two variants like 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, 12GB RAM + 512GB storage and 16GB RAM + 512GB storage in China. They are priced at RMB 9,999 (~Rs 1,11,750), RMB 10,999 (~Rs 1,23,000), and RMB 12,999 (~Rs 1,45,400).
