Micromax to make a comeback with “In” sub-brand; stock Android and sub-Rs 15,000 pricing confirmed

On: October 16, 2020

Indian phone brands such as Micromax, Lava, Karbonn Mobiles, and Intex that were once dominating the Indian smartphone market have lost the battle to Chinese brands in recent years. Currently, Chinese smartphone OEMs such as Xiaomi, Vivo, and Realme are ruling the Indian market as they have been consistently launching value for money products across different price points.

In the last two years, Micromax launched few phones in the country with Micromax iOne being the last phone that went official in May 2019. In June, it was reported that Micromax is eyeing a comeback by capitalising on the ongoing tensions between Indian and China.

Today, Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma made an announcement through the official Twitter handle of the brand. He not only confirmed Micromax’s comeback, but also revealed a blue retail box of an upcoming phone with “In” branding. The company is advertising its new sub-brand using hashtags like #IndiaKeLiye #BigAnnouncement #MicromaxIsBack and #AatmanirbharBharat to support Prime Minister Modi’s AtmaNirbhar vision.

Micromax to return with “In” branded phones

In the video, Sharma talks about the Micromax brand came into existence and how soon it became India’s number one smartphone firm and the 10th largest smartphone brand in 2015. He also acknowledged the loss of market share to Chinese phone brands. He added that ongoing Indo-China issues have compelled Micromax fans to ask the company to launch new phones. Listening to the fans, Micromax has decided to return to the smartphone battle in India. The upcoming phones could be sold under the “In” sub-brand.

In a recent interview with popular YouTuber Technical Guruji, Sharma revealed that the company will be launching multiple Micromax smartphones priced between Rs 7,000 and Rs 15,000. Since Micromax aims to rival Chinese brands, the company will be launching value-for-money and disruptive phones across different price segments in the country.

He went to reveal that the forthcoming Micromax phones will not have low-powered MediaTek processors like the Helio P22, Helio P30 or Helio G25. Micromax will launch performance-oriented smartphones to attract gamers. He also confirmed that the Android OS on these devices will offer an ad-free stock experience. The first “In” branded Micromax phone is expected to launch in early November.
