Microsoft Surface Go with 10-inch Display is Official For $399

Microsoft has launched a new 2-in-1 laptop-tablet hybrid called Surface Go. It seems to be suitable rival for the 9.7-inch Apple iPad that was unveiled in March with starting a price tag of $329. The newly unveiled Surface Go has arrived with a price tag of $399 for the base model.

When it comes to terms of appearance, the Surface Go looks like a mini version of Surface Pro. According to Microsoft, the Surface Go is the thinnest Surface device ever. It weighs 520 grams which makes it heavier than the 9.7-inch iPad that weighs 469 grams.

Like the Pro model, the Surface Go also features an integrated 165-degree kickstand. The device is fitted with a 10-inch PixelSense touchscreen display that offers an aspect ratio of 3:2. The screen produces a resolution of 1800 x 1200 pixels.

The Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y processor fuels the Microsoft Surface Go. The device can be availed in models like 4 GB RAM + 64 GB eMMC and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB SSD. Both the models carry support for Wi-Fi connectivity.

The battery of the Surface Go can last for up to 9 hours on a single charge, claims Microsoft. It takes around 2 hours to completely charge the battery. However, the exact size of the battery is not known.

Windows 10 S that has been designed to run on low-powered devices comes preinstalled on the Surface Go. Windows 10 S devices only feature Microsoft approve apps like MS Office, Skype, Netflix and so on. Since it can only run apps that are available on Windows Store, there is low risk of downloading malware or viruses. Surface Go users can also update to full version of Windows 10 for accessing other apps.

The Surface Go includes a front-facing camera of 5-megapixel for facial recognition. It has a rear camera of 8-megapixel. The connectivity ports available on the device include 3.5mm audio jack, microSD card slot, USB-C and Surface Connect for charging and connecting it to Surface Dock. The company has claimed that an LTE Advanced version of the Surface Go featuring Snapdragon X16 LTE modem will be made official later this year.

The 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM variant of the Surface Go costs $399 (~Rs. 27,450) whereas the higher model with 128 GB storage + 8 GB RAM has a price tag of $549 (~Rs. 37,750). It can be bought in colors like Burgundy, Cobalt Blue and Platinum.

Multiple regions such as Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K and U.S. are now receiving pre-orders of the Surface Go. The shipments of the pre-ordered units are slated to begin in August. There is no information when Microsoft will be launching the Surface Go in India. The Redmond-based firm has claimed that the device will be other markets later this year. Probably, India could be included in the second batch of countries that will be receiving the Surface Go.

Microsoft is selling some accessories for the Surface Go 2-in-1 laptop-tablet hybrid. The black colored Type Cover is priced $99 (~Rs. 6,800) and the Signature Type Cover that comes in colors like blue, black and red costs $129 (~Rs. 8,900). The Surface Mobile Mouse and Surface Pen are also available for the Surface Go with respective pricing of $35 (~Rs. 2,400) and $99 (~Rs. 6,800).
