Xiaomi announced their latest user interface dubbed as MIUI 9 earlier last year and promised most phones in their product portfolio to receive it over the period of time. The Redmi Note 3 was a very popular budget smartphone by the brand which was launched in 2016. The phone was launched with MIUI 7 based on Android Lollipop and is now set to receive MIUI 9. The latest MIUI update is set to bring some major changes to the phone’s user interface.
After the launch of MIUI 9, the Redmi Note 4 which is the successor to the Redmi Note 3 was one of the first devices to receive the update. The brand, however, did not pinpoint an exact rollout date for other devices until now. Earlier yesterday, the company’s India Product Manager, Rohit Ghalsasi tweeted about the official rollout of the update.
Redmi Note 3 users will start receiving MIUI 9 stable update starting from today but not everyone will get the update same time. It may take 48-72 hrs for you to get the update.

He also stated that the update is being rolled out slowly and should reach most Redmi Note 3 users between 48-72 hours.
The phone will receive MIUI 9.2.4 which will, unfortunately, be based on Android Marshmallow instead of Nougat as found on the Redmi Note 4 and its other newer devices. Although the update will improve the phone’s performance in many ways, the lack of Android Nougat will mean it will lose out on some features like Multi-Window, Quick Replies and App Switcher.
To recall, the Redmi Note 3 was a total bang for the buck smartphone and came with some spectacular internals for its asking price. It featured a Snapdragon 650 processor with 3GB of RAM. This allowed it to multitask like a high-end device and offer a great gaming performance as well. On the front, it was fitted with a 5.5-inch full HD display having a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
For the shutterbugs, the phone featured a 16-megapixel primary camera having an aperture of f/2.0 and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The major highlight to this phone has to be in it its battery department. The phone packed in a large 4050 mAh non-removable battery unit. This combined with its power-efficient processor allowed the phone to last well over a day on a single charge.
With MIUI 9, the capabilities of this smartphone will be further enhanced. Redmi Note 3 users should expect better multi-tasking, improved battery life and an overall smoother interface. You can also read more about the features that will come with MIUI 9 here.
