- Apple is working on an entry-level iPad
- It will feature the Apple A14 Bionic chipset and a USB Type-C port
- It will be the most affordable iPad from the brand
Apple is working on the most affordable iPad, claims a new report by 9to5 Mac. The publication has leaked the critical specifications of the tablet. It is speculated that the company may announce it alongside the iPhone 14 series later this year.
The rumoured entry-level table from the brand has a J272 codename. It will arrive as the 10th generation iPad from the company. The device will succeed the 10.2-inch iPad (9th generation iPad), which debuted in September 2021. Apart from the 10th generation iPad, the Cupertino-based company is also said to be working on a new iPad Pro powered by the recently announced M2 chip.
10th generation iPad specifications (rumoured)
Apple’s existing iPad models, such as the iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad Mini, are all equipped with a USB Type-C port. According to the publication, the 10th generation iPad will be equipped with a USB Type-C port instead of the Lightning port. With this, the entire iPad lineup will feature the USB Type-C port.
Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector is based on the slower USB 2.00 standard. The inclusion of the USB Type-C port on the next-generation iPad will enable support for faster transfer speeds. It will also allow users to connect a wide range of accessories to the iPad. For instance, users will be able to connect the entry-level iPad to Apple’s Studio Display for a full-blown desktop experience.
The 10th generation iPad is rumoured to feature a Retina display. Its screen size is not known yet, but it is expected to support the same screen resolution of 1,640 x 2,360 pixels that is available on the iPad Air 2022. The existing iPad has a 10.2-inch LCD panel. It remains to be seen whether Apple offers a larger display of around 10.9 inches on the 10th generation iPad.
The publication further mentioned that the 10th generation iPad would be powered by the A14 Bionic, which powers the iPad Air 4 from 2021. The inclusion of the A14 chip indicates that it will carry support for 5G connectivity. Hence, it is likely that the tablet will be made available in WiFi-only and WiFi + cellular editions. It is unclear whether the device will retain the existing design or sport a more modern look like the recent iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad Mini.
The iPhone 14 series is likely to debut in September 2022. There is a possibility that the 10th generation iPad may debut alongside the iPhone 14 lineup. Last year’s iPad had a starting price of $329 (~Rs 25,700). At present, there is no word on the pricing of its successor.
