Similar to every year, Motorola is looking to refresh its E-series budget smartphones. This was initially the most humble and budget friendly series from the brand. However, as per the leaks that have surfaced about the Moto E5 Plus, the phone appears to have borrowed some traits from its more premiumly priced siblings.
To start off with the design, the once rather cheap looking device now appears to have undergone a big overhaul. Similar to the Moto X4, it is likely to have a glass back and a metal unibody design. It will also have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for swiftly and securely getting into your phone. Another rather misleading design element is its rear-camera design. Although it looks like a dual camera setup, similar to the X4, it is likely to have just one sensor.
On the front is where the phone picks up quite a few brownie points. The brand has now integrated a bezel-less display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The exact resolution is yet to be known, but a safe bet would be an HD+ display, considering the price segment it will compete in. Apart from that, the phone will have a front-facing camera beside the only speaker grill that is visible on the phone, on top of the screen. The phone is likely to double up the earpiece as a speaker as well. It is also nice to see that the phone does come with a selfie flash as well. This should ensure good selfie images even in poor lighting. Regarding its exact specifications, there isn’t much information on it yet, however as more rumours pour in over the course of time, that shall be confirmed as well.
On close observation, we can see that Motorola has not eliminated the 3.5mm jack which is located on the bottom, together with a MicroUSB port for charging and data transfer purposes.
On the software side of things, considering this phone will be launched well into 2018, it should come with Android Oreo out of the box. Motorola doesn’t apply any heavy skins on top of its smartphones, so the overall user interface should be clean and easy to use. Speaking about its launch date, the date in the smartphone shows as April 3, 2018. It would be nice to see if Motorola does decide to launch the Moto E5 Plus as soon as first week of April.
