Lenovo-owned Motorola has come up with two special edition phones, Moto G5S and the Moto G5S Plus. Both the phones are successors to the previously launched Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. The new phones offer an incremental update to their predecessors in some key aspects, let’s know more about them below.
Moto G5S is the smaller sibling among the two, both in terms of size as well as specifications. It packs a 5.2-inch Full HD display below which sits the home button doubling up as a fingerprint scanner. The phone follows the traditional Moto design philosophy and has a full metal unibody, another upgrade from the previous version.
The G5S also possesses a slightly bigger battery than its predecessor, as it comes with a battery capacity of 3000mAh. It also comes with TurboPower feature which will charge up 5 hours of power in mere 15 minutes, according to Motorola.
Performance-wise, there is no significant improvement in the G5S. It comes with the same combination of Snapdragon 430 and 3GB RAM. Internal storage of 32GB is provided but it can be expanded up to 128GB. But since it is equipped with a hybrid slot, you would need to choose between an extra SIM or extra storage. The phone also comes with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box.
Even the cameras are marginally improved in the G5S. It has a 16MP rear camera but with the same aperture of f/2.0 which was in the G5. Motorola has also attempted to provide a better selfie experience to its users. The phone now has a 5MP wide-angle front camera with an improved aperture of f/2.0. Moreover, there’s an LED flash up front to lighten up selfies in the dark.
Moto G5S is available in two colour variants – Lunar Grey and Fine Gold. It is priced at € 249 which converts to around Rs. 18,900 in India.
Moto G5S Plus
Moto G5S Plus is the more powerful variant between the two. It comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. There is no difference in terms of processor and battery too. It packs the same Snapdragon 625 SoC and a 3000mAh battery. The phone comes in two variants, a 3GB RAM/32GB storage model and another 4GB RAM/64GB storage combination. Storage can be expanded even via a microSD card for up to 128GB.
The biggest upgrade in the Moto G5S Plus however, is in terms of camera. It now comes with a dual camera setup, both of which are 13MP sensors and have an aperture of f/2.0. With this, we can now expect advanced camera features like higher zooming capabilities and portrait mode among others. Even the selfie camera has got an upgrade as it now has an 8MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 up front. Moreover, you can now shoot 4K videos with the phone, an ability which the Moto G5S still lacks.
Even the Moto G5S Plus comes in the same colour variants – Lunar Grey and Fine Gold. It is priced at € 299 roughly translates to Rs. 22,700. G5S Plus has also been listed on Amazon and as per the listing, it will launch on August 18th.
As per Motorola, both the phones will be available in various countries globally starting this month. However, it will launch in the US this fall.
