Update (January 9, 2019): Motorola’s upcoming budget Android smartphone, the Moto G7 has been certified by the NBTC certification agency in Thailand. The variant certified in Thailand happens to be the XT1962-6 variant, which is also said to be headed to other markets in the Asia Pacific. As expected, the NBTC certification does not reveal any new information regarding the upcoming device. However, it does confirm the smartphone’s marketing name.
Unlike the other Moto G7 variants, which will include 3GB of RAM, the XT1962-6 variant will pack 4GB of RAM along with 64GB of internal storage. For further storage expansion, the handset is expected to include a microSD card slot for further expansion up to 256GB. Going by previous leaks, we expect the Moto G7 to sport a 6.24-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with a waterdrop notch at the top. Under the hood, Moto G7 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 632 octa-core processor. Built on a 14nm manufacturing process, the Snapdragon 632 utilizes eight Kryo 250 cores clocked at up to 1.8 GHz. For handling the graphics processing, Snapdragon 632 integrates an Adreno 506 GPU. In terms of optics, the Moto G7 is rumored to be equipped with a 16MP + 5MP dual-camera setup at the rear and a 12MP selfie snapper on the front. As shown by several leaked renders of the smartphone, the dual cameras on the back will be stacked horizontally. The fingerprint sensor will also be mounted at the rear and not on the front. Motorola is expected to launch the Moto G7 series smartphones at an event in February.
Lenovo-owned Motorola Mobility introduced a few major changes to its G series family of smartphones earlier this year. The Moto G6 series smartphones all feature 18:9 aspect ratio displays with much improved screen-to-body ratio compared to their predecessors. For 2019, Motorola is working on the Moto G7 family of smartphones, which will comprise of a total of four models – Moto G7, Moto G7 Plus, Moto G7 Power, and Moto G7 Play. While press renders of the Moto G7 and Moto G7 Plus were leaked online earlier this year, we have now managed to access press renders of all four Moto G7 series handsets.
All Moto G7 Series Smartphones Will Feature a Notched Display
As confirmed by previously leaked renders of the two smartphones, the Moto G7 and Moto G7 Plus will feature a waterdrop notch. Thanks to the waterdrop notch design, we can expect the Moto G7 and Moto G7 Plus to offer a significantly higher screen-to-body ratio compared to their predecessors. That said, the bottom bezels on the two smartphones are slightly on the thicker side when compared to other smartphones with a waterdrop notch. As you can see in the image above, the bottom bezel includes the Motorola branding.
The Moto G7 Power, on the other hand, features a regular notch with a single selfie snapper housed inside it. At the rear, the smartphone will include a single primary camera and a fingerprint sensor embedded inside the Motorola batwing logo. As with previous Motorola devices with the “Power” suffix, the Moto G7 Power’s key selling point will be impressive battery life. The Motorola Moto G7 Play will have a wider notch at the top, housing a selfie snapper and an LED flash module. Just like the Moto G7 Power, the Moto G7 Play will have a single rear camera with an LED flash and a fingerprint sensor embedded within the Motorola logo.
All four Moto G7 series smartphones are expected to be officially announced in the first quarter of 2019. The Moto G6 series made its debut in April this year, so there is a small chance that the Moto G7 series may arrive in April 2019.
