[Update: October 29th]: Motorola has now announced that the Moto G8 Plus will go on sale in India starting from October 29th at 12 pm, and will be available in two colour variants – Cosmic Blue and Crystal Pink.
Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched its latest smartphone in the G-series dubbed as the Moto G8 Plus. Prior to launch, the key specifications of the smartphone were leaked online, giving us a hint at the latest device. The Moto G8 Plus arrives as the successor to the Moto G7 Plus that was launched earlier this year. To recall, in the G7 series, only the standard G7 and G7 Power had made their way to India. The latest Moto G8 Plus comes with incremental upgrades over the G7 Plus. It also borrows the action camera from the Motorola One Action.
Motorola G8 Plus specifications and features
Beginning with the display, the Moto G8 Plus sports a 6.3-inch screen bearing full HD+ display and a waterdrop notch on top. There is a slightly thick chin at the bottom of the device. The smartphone is equipped with stereo speakers tuned by Dolby Audio for enhanced audio. Design-wise, the Moto G8 Plus is available in Cosmic Blue and Crystal Pink colours. The back panel houses a vertically stacked camera setup instead of the circular module in the centre that was found on older devices. The rear-mounted fingerprint scanner is embedded in the Moto ‘batwing’ logo. The G8 Plus also features a water-repellent design that protects the phone from accidental spills and splashes.
In the photography department, the Moto G8 Plus is equipped with a triple camera setup accompanied by an LED flash, PDAF, and a laser autofocus sensor. The module comprises of a 48MP main camera, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 16MP Action Cam (found on the Motorola One Action). The primary sensor makes use of quad-pixel technology for delivering sharper and brighter pictures in low-light conditions. The 16MP Action Cam allows the user to shoot videos in landscape mode even if the phone is held vertically. It is capable of shooting videos with a 117-degree field of view and comes with enhanced video stabilisation for smooth recording. In the front, the Moto G8 Plus is fitted with a 25MP selfie snapper.
The primary camera is capable of recording up to 4K videos at 30fps, while the Action Cam and front camera lets users record 1080p videos at 120fps. The camera on the Moto G8 Plus is backed by various AI features like digital zoom (up to 8x), auto HDR, high res zoom, night vision, portrait lighting, portrait mode, RAW photo output, best shot, slow-mo video, timelapse, hyperlapse, etc.
Under the hood, the Moto G8 Plus is powered by a Snapdragon 665 processor clocked at 2.0GHz paired with an Adreno 610 GPU. The device packs 4GB DDR4 RAM and offers 64GB internal storage expandable up to 512GB via a microSD card slot. The Moto G8 Plus is fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery with support for 15W Turbocharging. Software-wise, the smartphone runs Android 9 Pie. On the connectivity front, the Moto G8 Plus comes with a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE, GPS and GLONASS.
Moto G8 Plus Price in India
Motorola has priced the Moto G8 Plus at Rs 13,999. The smartphone will be available for purchase from Flipkart starting from October-end. As part of the launch offers, the brand is offering a cashback of Rs 2,200 Jio users, a Cleartrip coupon worth Rs 3,000, and Zoom Car vouchers worth Rs 2,000.
