On: July 3, 2017

Moto M, one of the most preferred phones in the Rs. 15,000 budget segment is now receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update. This update will let Moto M users avail the complete set of features provided by the latest Android version. Motorola usually does some minor tweaks to the OS and maintains a near stock Android experience, the same can be expected with this update too. The updates have now started rolling out for Indian users of Moto M.

Major highlights of Android 7.0 Nougat in Moto M

The new Android 7.0 update includes the security patch provided by Google in May 2017. This patch would keep Moto M users safe from a critical security vulnerability, as described by Google. Since a completely new version of the OS along with this security patch is provided in this update, the download will demand 1499 MB of your storage.

An improvised version of the Doze feature, which was widely talked about while launching Android Nougat will now be available in the Moto M. This feature promises to increase the battery life of your device by smartly dozing off the apps which you aren’t actively using for a long duration.

There are considerable enhancements in the user interface including the new slide launcher. Android Nougat also lets you view apps in a split screen view to provide a better multi-tasking experience. This will allow you to use more apps simultaneously in your Moto M.

Google’s own video calling app Duo will now come pre-installed after users of Moto M install the Nougat update. There are several enhancements behind the scenes too which will make the phone have a smooth and comparatively bug-free experience.

How to get the update?

You will automatically receive an OTA update if your phone is connected to the internet. You can try rebooting your phone once and see if that helps in receiving the update. However, since the update is being rolled out in phases, you might have to wait for a few days. In case you want to install the update manually, just go to the ‘About Phone’ section in your phone’s settings and begin the download there.

Important things to remember while updating:

It is always advisable to download the update through a stable Wi-Fi connection. You also need to ensure that the phone has at least 50% charge remaining while downloading the update as well as updating the phone. If not, just keep your phone connected to the charger throughout the process. These precautions would help you avoid any mishaps during the process of updating.
