Motorola has previously launched several devices in the X series but the last one, X Force was launched back in November 2015. Since then, Motorola has been busy with the Z and G series. At IFA 2017 in Berlin, the company has made a comeback to the X series by launching the X4. The phone moves along the lines of previous X series phones by looking premium and still not costing a bomb.
Moto X4 Design and Display
The X4 looks quite premium in terms of design as it has a metal unibody with a metallic finish. The dual-camera setup in the phone is surrounded by a ring protection which further amplifies and differentiates the phone’s design. The phone has a physical home button which doubles up as a fingerprint sensor. There’s a USB Type-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack located on the phone’s bottom edge. Moto X4 will be available in two different colours: Super Black and Sterling Blue.
The Moto X4 comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels, similar to the recently launched Moto G5S. The display houses an LTPS IPS panel along with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Given the specifications, the phone should be able to provide a decent display output.
Moto X4 Camera
The phone houses a dual-camera – a 12-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and another 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor which can capture a 120-degree view. Both of the sensors combine together to capture better pictures in certain conditions. The X4 also with a dual-LED flash which boasts of colour correlated temperature and PDAF. Multiple camera modes are provided in the phone as well.
The front is of 16-megapixel which promises good selfies in all lighting conditions as it also accompanies a flash, f/2.0 aperture and an adaptive low light mode.
Moto X4 Performance and Battery
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset is present under the hood to power the phone. It is a 2.2GhZ octa-core processor which can manage a good amount of multi-tasking and pull off performance-intensive tasks when coupled with 3GB of RAM which the phone comes with. Internal storage of the phone is 32GB but storage can be further expanded with an external microSD till up to 2TB. It is expected that a new 4GB RAM/64GB storage will be launched in some regions.
On the battery front, it houses a 3000mAh battery pack which promises up to a day’s usage. The phone also supports fast charging which will manage to provide up to six hours of battery just within 15 minutes.
Moto X4 Software and Features
The Moto X4 runs on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box without any custom skin. It was also announced that the phone will also have Amazon Alexa voice assistant along with the default Google Assistant.
This comes as a surprising move from Moto which has always believed in maintaining stock Android experience on the software front. The X4 is 1P68 certified which makes the phone water and dust resistant. It comes with home button gestures bundled up with Moto Experiences. However, Moto X4 doesn’t supports Moto Mods making it a non-modular phone, unlike many other Moto phones.
Moto X4 Pricing and Availability
Moto X4 will be available throughout Europe later this month. In other regions, the phone is expected to arrive sometime around October. Currently, it is priced at €399 which roughly translates to Rs. 25,500. Almost all of the X series phones in the past belonged to this price range and the X4 doesn’t deviates from the trend.
