Motorola finally seems set to release the Moto X4 and put all the rumour mills to rest. The company has sent out invites regarding an event that will be held in Sao Paulo on August 24, 2017. Although the invite doesn’t explicitly mention the launch of the upcoming device in the X- series, it is highly anticipated to be the X4 itself.
There have been several leaks and rumours about the Moto X4 ranging from its design language to its specifications. The Moto X4 will be the first Moto X series device that will be released since the company was acquired by Lenovo. We have recently Lenovo devices take inspiration from Moto devices such as the Lenovo K8 Note that is now featuring a stock Android experience. We can also expect Moto devices to follow this trend and pick up some of Lenovo’s traits.
In terms of design language, the Moto X4 is expected to feature a full aluminium body which will encapsulate a 5.2-inch FullHD display. It is also expected to follow a similar design language as the recently launched Moto devices such as the G5S and the G5S Plus. The popular Moto dimple is also expected to make a comeback under the camera bump. The Moto X4 is also expected to be IP68 rated or at least water resistant like other Motorola devices.
Speaking about the camera bump, the Moto X4 is touted to feature a dual camera setup, the second Moto device to feature one after the Moto G5S Plus. The rear camera setup will feature an 8MP sensor along with a 12MP one. This setup will be aesthetically be placed together with the LED flash unit inside a ring. The camera setup will also bring in enhancement to the type of images that can be captured by the device, including effects like Bokeh. On the front of the device will also feature a home button which will double up as a fingerprint sensor. Motorola has been pretty innovative lately with the fingerprint sensor by including gestures and we should expect this feature to make its way to the upcoming Moto X4 as well.
In terms of specifications, the new offering from the company should feature an octa-core Snapdragon 630 processor clocking at 2.2GHz. The device should also be available in two storage options that are 32GB with 3GB RAM and 64GB with 4GB RAM. This configuration may vary depending on the region of purchase. In terms of battery, the Moto X4 is expected to rock a 3000mAh unit. Together with the upgraded doze feature that Android Nougat has to offer the device is supposed to perform well on the battery front.
