Yesterday, chipmaker Qualcomm announced its second flagship processor called Snapdragon 870 5G. It is the successor to last year’s Snapdragon 865 and 865+. Soon after the announcement, Motorola confirmed that it will launch its upcoming Edge S smartphone with the latest chipset on January 26th in China.

The Motorola Edge S will also be the first smartphone to be powered by Snapdragon 870 5G. The Lenovo-owned brand shared the upcoming offering’s launch poster on Weibo. Motorola has been teasing the upcoming Edge S for quite some time now.
The latest Snapdragon 870 5G SoC is based on 7nm architecture and clocks the fastest speed up to 3.2GHz. The chipset brings upgrades over the Snapdragon 865. The launch poster shared by Motorola doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming smartphone. It could be the long-rumoured Motorola Nio that was seen in multiple leaks and on Geekbench platform.
Motorola Edge S specifications and features (expected)
The Motorola Edge S is expected to feature a 6.7-inch display bearing a full HD+ resolution and 105Hz refresh rate screen. As per leaked renders, the smartphone will reportedly sport a quad-camera setup with a 64MP primary sensor. The device is rumoured to feature dual front-facing cameras.
The Geekbench listing revealed that the upcoming offering will pack 8GB RAM and run on Android 11 OS. There could also be a 12GB RAM variant. The Motorola Edge S is tipped to be backed by a 5,000mAh battery unit with support for 20W fast charging.
