Motorola has a handful of smartphones waiting to go official. The G-series phones like Moto G8, Moto G8 Power and Moto G Stylus are expected to be launched soon. Moreover, as the company had confirmed in December last year, it will be announcing Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 865 powered devices at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020 tech show later this month. Recent reports have revealed that the Lenovo-owned company’s upcoming flagship phone will be arriving with the Motorola Edge+ moniker. A fresh report on XDA Developers reveals that the firm is working on Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 865 powered upper mid-range and flagship phones under Motorola One 2020 branding. The report has carried the key specifications of these smartphones. It is speculated that a variant of the Motorola Edge+ could be as dubbed as the Motorola One 2020.
Motorola One 2020 (Motorola Edge+) specifications and features
According to the publication, the upcoming flagship phone from Motorola is codenamed “burton” and it is said to be known as “racer turbo” internally. The phone may go official as the Motorola One 2020. In certain markets, the phone may ship without 5G connectivity to cut down on costs. This could be the reason why 5G is not mentioned in its moniker. In the US, it could be available through Verizon with “Motorola Edge+” branding. The moniker was first revealed by tipster Evan Blass (evleaks) as the company’s upcoming flagship phone. Recently, the Motorola Edge+ was found benchmarked on Geekbench through which it was revealed that it is powered by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform and 12GB of RAM.
The report further reveals that the Motorola Edge+ has a 6.67-inch display. It will be the first phone from the company to house a 90Hz refresh rate display with curved edges. It supports full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. The leaked images of the phone shows that there is a punch-hole on the screen at the top-left corner. It is unclear whether the phone sports an IPS LCD or an AMOLED screen.
The Edge+ may come in 8GB and 12GB RAM versions. There is no word on the configurations of the front and rear cameras of the smartphone. The device will be drawing power from a humungous 5,170mAh battery.
Motorola One 5G 2020 specifications and features
Another Motorola phone codenamed as “racer” or “racer 5G” is said to be an upper mid-range phone powered by the Snapdragon 765 or Snapdragon 765G processor. The phone may debut as the Motorola One 5G 2020. It is said to be equipped with the same sized curved display that will be available on the Motorola Edge+.
The smartphone is said to be equipped with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage. There is no confirmation on the camera capabilities of the device. However, it is known that it may feature a 48-megapixel main lens at its back. It come packed with a 4,660mAh battery. At least one of its variants will have dual SIM support. It will carry support for NFC connectivity.
Android 10 will come preinstalled on the upcoming Motorola One 2020 smartphones. The phone will be loaded with some exclusive features from Motorola. There will be a Moto Edge Assistant app that will bring customisable tap gestures on the curved edges of the screen. The Moto Gametime app will give easy access to frequently used tools through a toolbar or floating button for enhanced gaming experience. Moto Audio is an audio-tuning app for automatically adjusting the audio profile for calls, voice recording, USB-C or Bluetooth connected accessories and so on.
The report also mentions that the Moto Edge Assistant will be only available on the Motorola One 2020 series as they feature curved edges. Moto Gametime could be available on other Motorola phones like the Moto G Stylus. It is not clear whether the Moto Audio app will be available on other devices from the company.
