Motorola razr is back with a clamshell design and foldable display; priced at $1,499

Earlier this year in February, Samsung and Huawei joined the club of companies offering smartphones with foldable screens. While Samsung introduced the Galaxy Fold, Huawei announced the Mate X. Today, Lenovo-owned Motorola has also boarded the foldable phone bandwagon and has introduced its first offering in this segment called the Motorola razr . While the Galaxy Fold and Mate X have vertically foldable screens, the razr features a large flexible screen on the inside that folds horizontally. Notably, just like the original iconic Motorola razr, the 2019 version of the same also comes with a small secondary display on the outside.

Motorola razr specifications and features

Talking about the design first, the Motorola razr features a large display on the inside that can be used when unfolded. The phone’s main screen is slightly rounded on both the top and bottom. There’s a notch above the screen that houses the selfie camera, earpiece and other sensors. There’s a thicker chin at the bottom, which features a home button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor. The bottom also has a USB Type-C port. In the folded mode, you will be able to use the smaller secondary display to check notifications, text messages, emails, taking selfies, controlling music playback and more. There’s also another camera below the second screen on the outside. Notably, the phone features a splash-proof design.

Moving on to the specifications, the Motorola razr features a 6.2-inch Flex View CinemaVision pOLED primary display on the inside with an aspect ratio of 21:9 and a resolution of 2142 x 876 pixels. The secondary screen on the outside utilises a 2.7-inch gOLED display panel with a resolution of 600 x 800p. Under the hood, the device has an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, which is accompanied by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage. Software-wise, the handset boots Android 9 Pie out of the box.

In the imaging department, there’s a single 16MP primary camera at the back with Night Vision mode support, f/1.7 aperture, Dual Pixel tech, EIS, laser autofocus, and a dual-LED flash unit. For selfies and video-calling, there’s a 5MP shooter inside the notch above the main screen that has an aperture of f/2.0 and the screen flash feature. The connectivity options include 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C 3.0 support, NFC, and GPS with GLONASS. A 2,510mAh battery with 15W TurboPower fast charging support completes the list of the specs.
