👀 Wow! Think I've found my favourite gadget at #MWC23 before it even starts. This concept rollable is really impressive and @Moto was confident enough to let us have hands-on time. Interesting to watch the road to commercialisation on this one… pic.twitter.com/EDgkWsOm1t

While a functional Motorola Rizr is being displayed at MWC 2023, it is still in the concept stage. The Lenovo-owned company hasn’t confirmed the name of the device yet, but it’s said to be called the Rizr because it looks like it was modelled after the old Rizr Z3 feature phone.
Reports have shown that the 5-inch POLED screen on the Rizr concept phone has a 15:9 aspect ratio. Since it is a rollable screen, the display can expand to 6.5 inches, which allows it to offer an aspect ratio of 22:9. The unused display wraps around the bottom and slides up on the back when it is in its compact form. This way, the display portion available on the back can be used as a secondary screen.
The Rizr concept phone is said to be running on customized software by Motorola. The interface can automatically expand the display depending on the app being used. If the YouTube app is opened, the screen can automatically expand when it is held horizontally.
The Rizr concept has a 3,100mAh battery. The size of the battery is small since the major internal portion is occupied by a motor. It has other features like a selfie camera, a dual-camera setup on the back, a speaker grille, and some sensors. The device reportedly weighs around 210 grams.
Motorola Defy 2 specifications, price
The Motorola Defy 2 has a 6.6-inch IPS LCD display with thick bezels and a waterdrop notch. It offers an FHD+ resolution, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.
The Defy 2 being a rugged phone, comes with MIL-STD-810H certification, which allows it to withstand harsh conditions and impacts. In addition, it comes with IP68 and IP69K-rated dust and water resistance. According to Motorola, the phone can be easily cleaned and sanitised using soap, water, or alcohol wipes.
Under the hood, it features the Dimensity 930 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of built-in storage. There is a hybrid SIM slot onboard for adding a microSD card to the device. The device packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 15W charging and Qi wireless charging.
The Defy 2 has an 8-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calls. The rear shell of the phone has a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. A fingerprint scanner is also available on the rear shell. The smartphone is confirmed to receive two Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates. Lastly, it provides support for the Bullitt Satellite Messenger service.
The Motorola Defy 2 will be available for purchase in North America, Latin America, and Canada by the second quarter of this year. It will be priced at $599 (~Rs 50,000).
Motorola Defy Satellite Link
The Motorola Defy Satellite Link is a Bluetooth-enabled accessory that enables satellite connectivity on devices running Android 10 or later and iOS 14 or above. The device is powered by MediaTek Bullitt and 3GPP NTN Technology.
The Defy Satellite Link enables functions such as two-way messaging, location sharing, and SOS assistance. It is a MIL-STD-810H-certified and IP68-rated device. Backed by a 600mAh battery, it promises a long battery life. It will be available for $99 (~Rs 8,200) through international retailers beginning in April 2023.
