Multiple Upcoming Nokia and OPPO Phones Get EEC Certification in Russia

On: July 19, 2019

HMD Global may soon expand its smartphone portfolio with multiple new models. The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has certified a total of seven upcoming models from HMD Global: TA-1206, TA-1203, TA-1198, TA-1196, TA-1192, TA-1186, and TA-1175. However, we cannot rule out the possibility of some of them being variants of the same smartphone. In addition to the Nokia models, the EEC has certified a few upcoming OPPO smartphones as well. OPPO smartphones certified by the EEC include CPH1941, CPH1931, CPH1951, and CPH1907. The CPH1931 had surfaced on the Bluetooth SIG website recently, revealing a Snapdragon 665 chipset and 5000mAh battery. Hardware specs of the other OPPO smartphones remain a mystery for now.

HMD Could Launch Multiple New Nokia-Branded Smartphones Soon

The EEC website includes no other information regarding the certified Nokia devices except for their model numbers. According to the latest rumors, HMD Global may launch at least two new smartphones next month: Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2. The “TA-1198” model certified by the EEC is believed to be one of the variants of the Nokia 7.2. Both the phones are expected to have a similar design with a waterdrop notch. In terms of optics, both the phones are tipped to come with a 48-megapixel primary sensor at the rear with Zeiss optics. We may also see a dedicated button for the Google Assistant, similar to the Nokia 4.2 and Nokia 3.2.

Under the hood, Nokia 7.2 is reported to feature Qualcomm’s 14nm Snapdragon 660 AIE octa-core processor, which could disappoint some fans as most Android OEMs have switched to newer Snapdragon 600- and 700-series chips for their budget and mid-range offerings. HMD had used the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset in the Nokia 6.1 last year, while the Snapdragon 636 chipset powered the Nokia 7.1. Even though the Snapdragon 660 is a decent upgrade over both those chips, it isn’t as fast or efficient as the newer Snapdragon 675 or Snapdragon 665 chips.
