Mysterious Pixel phone with ultrasonic fingerprint sensor in the works

  • A mysterious Pixel phone with a “G10” codename is in the works
  • It could be an early prototype of the Pixel 8 Pro
  • It seems to feature a 6.7-inch OLED display with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner

Earlier this month, Google unveiled the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in various markets, including India. Earlier this year, tipster Kuba Wojciechowski provided preliminary information about a flagship Pixel series phone, which has the “G10” codename. The tipster has now collaborated with 91mobiles to share more details about the device.

The “gepard” codename is also associated with the mysterious G10 device. Gepard is the German word for cheetah, which is the codename of the Pixel 7 Pro. Hence, the G10 bears some similarities with the Pixel 7 Pro. It is speculated that the device could be an early testing unit for the Pixel 8 Pro.

The G10 houses an OLED display supplied by BOE that produces a resolution of 3,120 x 1,440 pixels. The device measures 155mm in height and has a width of 71mm, which is similar to the Pixel 7 Pro. Hence, it appears that the G10 could be equipped with a 6.7-inch display.

However, one differentiating factor from the G10 is that it is equipped with an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner. The Pixel 7 series features an optical under-display fingerprint sensor. With an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner onboard, it can compete with similarly priced flagship phones of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which also features an ultrasonic fingerprint reader.

Unfortunately, nothing else is known about the specifications of the mysterious G10 device. Hopefully, newer reports will reveal more details about the smartphone.

Google Pixel Fold tipped to arrive in Q1 2023

In related news, Google is said to be working on its first foldable phone, which is tentatively called the Pixel Notepad. Since the official moniker of the device is not known yet, the device is also being called Pixel Fold. The device is expected to feature a 5.87-inch cover display and a 7.57-inch internal foldable screen. The device is expected to arrive with a 64-megapixel Sony IMX787 main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a telephoto camera. An 8-megapixel camera is also said to be available on the internal screen. It is unclear whether the device will be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The Pixel Notepad is expected to debut by Q1 2023.
