Netflix slashes prices of its subscription plans in India: check new prices here


  • Netflix has significantly reduced the price of its subscription plans in India

  • The price of the basic plan has been slashed by a whopping 60 percent

Netflix has slashed the prices of its subscription plans for Indian users. This is the first time the popular streaming platform is reducing the prices since its entry in to the country way back in 2016. The OTT streaming service offers four plans namely Mobile, Standard, Basic and Premium to users.

Netflix faces stiff competition from Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV and others in the streaming space in India. With the reduced prices, Netflix aims to attract more users to its platform.

The revised prices of Netflix will come in to effect from today i.e December 14th. The streaming platform’s popular mobile-only plan now starts at Rs 149 per month and goes up to Rs 649 a month for the Premium plan. Check the table below for various plans, their old and new prices as well as what each plan offers.

The benefits of all four Netflix subscription plans remain the same as before. However,  as seen in the table above, the prices are significantly reduced. The mobile-only plan that used to cost Rs 199 is now cheaper by Rs 50 whereas the basic plan that was available for Rs 499 is now available for Rs 199. Both offer SD video resolution with the latter supporting up to 4 devices. The prices of standard and premium subscriptions are down to Rs 499 and Rs 649 from Rs 649 and Rs 799 respectively. The former offers 1080p resolution while the latter maxes out as 4K + HDR streaming resolution.

Compared to Netflix, one-month subscription of Amazon Prime (which also includes Prime Video) now starts at Rs 179 whereas the quarterly and annual plans are priced at Rs 459 and Rs 1,499 respectively. On the other hand, Disney+ Hotstar offers two annual plans i.e. Super and Premium priced at Rs 899 and Rs 1,499. The former comes with 1080p streaming while the latter offers 4K resolution along with an ad-free watching experience. The Super plan can be used on 2 devices while the Premium supports 4 devices.
