The fourth week of September 2022, i.e., from September 26 to October 2, 2022, will see several films from the South making their OTT debut after the theatrical releases. On the other hand, some popular, highly anticipated Hollywood films will also make their OTT premiere, thereby becoming a part of the audience’s must-watch films for the week.
Marilyn Monroe’s story Blonde will release on Netflix after a long wait. Meanwhile, the sequel of the popular drama Hocus Pocus will be released on Disney+ Hotstar. Fans of adventure thrillers will enjoy watching Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train on Zee5.
On the other hand, the much-loved and highly-rated reality show, Bigg Boss, is back with its 16th season. Superstar Salman Khan will host the show once again, which along with Colors TV telecast, will also stream on Voot.

Blonde – Netflix
Netflix’s upcoming release, Blonde, is a fictionalised presentation of Marilyn Monroe’s life. Based on Joyce Carol Oates’ novel released in 2000, the film will focus on Monroe’s life, career, and struggle. It is said that the actress had a traumatic childhood and faced several obstacles. However, the beauty of her skill was that she never brought it to the screen.
Monroe earned the name and tag of a superstar in the 1950s and 60s, so much so that her beauty was appreciated, and people were in awe of her. Her name, Norma Jeane Mortenson, was not the one people recognised her by and she used the stage name, Marilyn Monroe.
Reports state that she often portrayed dark characters on screen, and this raised several questions as they spoke about issues like abuse of power, exploitation, and more. Netflix’s upcoming release Blonde talks about these aspects.
Actress Ana de Armas plays the lead role in the film and her portrayal of Monroe has been appreciated by the audience. However, the film overall received a mediocre response. Besides Armas, the film also stars Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Xavier Samuel, and Julianne Nicholson in pivotal roles.
While Blonde was watched first at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on September 8, 2022, the film hit the theatres on September 16, 2022. Critics and the audience at the film festival also lauded the screenplay and direction.

Plan A Plan B – Netflix
With the birth of OTT platforms, filmmakers in India have made the most of the opportunity to present new-age and contemporary drama. One such film which will be released this year on Netflix is Riteish Deshmukh and Tamannaah Bhatia starrer Plan A Plan B. The film was announced last year, and the trailer was released recently by the makers showcasing the lead characters Kaushtubh and Nirali.
Kaushtubh, played by Riteish, is a successful and unmarried divorce lawyer; whereas Nirali, played by Tamannaah, is a matchmaker who believes marriage is for everyone but her. She moves close to his office, and this leads to several conflicts, eventually, the bond grows into an attraction. What unfolds then are a series of events where the audience can see how opposites attract, meet each other, and if they give a name to the attraction!
Plan A Plan B is produced by India Stories Media & Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and Funk Your Blues Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, the first visuals of the film were shared at the ‘Har Din Filmy’ event organized by Netflix.

Cobra – SonyLIV
Superstar Vikram’s film, Cobra, which was released in theatres on August 31, 2022, can now be enjoyed by the audience on the OTT platform. As per reports, Cobra will stream on SonyLIV from September 28, 2022.
Fans were eagerly waiting for the film to release and check out the buzz regarding the characters played by Vikram. Media reports also confirm that the film will get a television premiere in October 2022. Cobra received mediocre reviews from the critics and the film which was shot for over three years did not satisfy the audience. While the concept is intriguing, Cobra fails to hold the attention of the audience, especially in the second half. The screenplay did not appeal to the viewers. However, Vikram’s role was appreciated and the efforts he took to play multiple characters paid off.
The film is about Mathi, a mathematician genius, who also uses his other identity, Cobra, to commit intelligent crimes using his mental strength, Mathematics. His focus is always to plan the crimes strategically and kill people, and this becomes the crux of the film. Cobra revolves around how he plans them and their objectives.
Vikram is supported by other popular actors in significant roles. The film is directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu and produced by Lalit Kumar.

Bullet Train – Zee5
The unlucky assassin, Ladybug, gets on a mission which revolves around a collision course packed with global lethal adversaries. After a series of failed or unsuccessful gigs, he has to become a part of a new mission full of conflicting objectives, all occurring on the fastest train in the world.
Presented as an action-comedy film, Bullet Train is directed by David Leitch and the screenplay is written by Zak Olkewicz. Produced by Antoine Fuqua, the film stars Brad Pitt in the lead role and is supported by an eminent cast.
Based on the 2010 novel Maria Beetle by Kōtarō Isaka, Bullet train is a fictionalized English version of the Tokaido Shinkansen. Makers began the shooting in Los Angeles and wrapped the schedule in March 2021. As per reports, Bullet Train made over $230 million globally and was made at an estimated cost of $90 million.

Karm Yuddh – Disney+ Hotstar
Karm Yuddh will be the first series which will see the collaboration between popular production house Adhikari Brothers and OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar. The production house has been known for shows like SAB TV’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, Yes Boss, and more which have made a mark on Indian television.
With the new show on Disney+ Hotstar, the production house will bring a new story centred around power and position. The makers have not revealed a lot about Karm Yuddh, but from the trailer, it looks like the show will focus on the Roy Family and their lives. A substantial portion of the show was shot in Kolkata where the makers picturized the central conflict of Karm Yuddh. The audience will also be able to see the web of secrecy which becomes a significant part of the show.
The cast of Karm Yuddh includes eminent names who have made a big mark in the Indian entertainment space. Ashutosh Rana, who plays a pivotal role mentions that the audience might judge his character to have a negative shade, however, there is a trajectory and story which they should watch to understand the complexity.
The makers have also called ‘Karm Yuddh’ to be a high-octane family drama with twists and turns. The audience will be able to see different shades of characters which would make the show binge-worthy.

Fans of South Indian superstar, Arya, will soon be able to watch his recent release, Captain, on Zee5. The story of the film revolves around a military officer’s journey to fight aliens. The concept of the film was much appreciated; however, the film received a mediocre response post-release.
Touted to be a Tamil sci-fi action thriller, Captain can be streamed from September 30. Zee5 also shared the information regarding the OTT release details recently.
Directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan, Captain is about Vetriselvan (Arya) and his team of brave soldiers from the Indian Army, who embark on a dangerous and life-threatening mission to fight aliens who have been spotted in the restricted ‘sector 52’ area of the forest. Ones who enter the area, never return, and this creates mystery. The team is on a mission to understand the background, their motives and more; and the journey highlights how they fight the aliens thereby risking their lives.
Produced by The Show People, Captain was released on September 8, 2022, in theatres. Maker’s thought did make an impact since nothing of this kind has been explored in Tamil cinema. The film has been shot at several picturesque locations and presents itself as an interesting watch.

Hocus Pocus 2 – Disney+ Hotstar
Fans will enjoy watching the Sanderson Sisters once again in Hocus Pocus 2 and excitement was clearly visible across social media when Disney announced the film and released the first trailer in June 2022. As per reports, the trailer was viewed over 40 million times in just one day.
The plot revolves around the sisters’ return to Salem; however, the anticipation of the mayhem will be everything the audience will have to wait for. It is after 29 years that the sisters have returned to present-day Salem in the quest for revenge. Three high school students will have to face every challenge to stop the same.
Written by Jen D’Angelo, the film was supposed to be helmed by Adam Shankman. However, Anne Fletcher then directed the same and Shankman continued to play the role of an executive producer.
Touted to be a supernatural comedy film, Hocus Pocus 2 is a sequel to the 1993-release of the same name. Makers began filming for the sequel in October 2021 and the film will stream in India, on Disney+ Hotstar, on September 30, 2022.

The story of Iravukku Aayiram Kangal is about the tough situation a cab driver gets into after he becomes a murder suspect. Pets are adorable and watching them play a lead role in the film is a joy in itself. That was what the audience experienced while watching 777 Charlie which received rave reviews post the release in June 2022.
Charlie is an abused dog, and he stumbles upon a jaded man, Dharma. They become friends and the bond gets stronger with time. However, at this juncture, a piece of news terrifies both the friends who then set on a one-of-a-kind memorable journey. While Dharma is surrounded by loneliness and mental issues, Charlie comes into his life only to give a new perspective.
Made originally in Kannada, the film has been written and directed by Kiranraj K and produced by Paramvah Studios. 777 Charlie was announced in September 2017 and shot across several locations in India. Initially, it got limited distribution across the country, however, makers did bag additional theatres post the positive reviews and critical acclaim.
Reports state that 777 Charlie has made theatrical earnings of over INR 100 crore becoming the fifth highest-grossing Kannada film. One can enjoy 777 Charlie on Amazon Prime Video but for now you will have to rent it to watch it.

Solomante Theneechakal | Simply South and Manorama Max
Translated as Solaman’s honeybees in English, Solomante Theneechakal is a Malayalam film which released in 2022. Directed by Lal Jose and written by P. G. Prageesh, critics gave a positive response to the film calling it one of the director’s best works. The twists and turns of the films were appreciated. It was also compared to some popular thriller films and the reviews have appreciated how this translated on the silver screen.
The work done by the young cast was also liked and was called ‘promising’ as the movie keeps the viewers hooked to the screen.
Produced by Lal Jose, Solomante Theneechakal is a story of two young women police constables, Suja and Glyna, who are friends. However, their bond faces the test of time when Suja’s lover Sharath allegedly becomes a part of the crime. What follows then is a mystery of how the truth is unveiled and the obstacles they face.
Crew members of the film include Vidyasagar as the music composer and Ajmal Sabu as the cinematographer.

Bigg Boss 16 – Voot
The highly anticipated and popular reality show, Bigg Boss 16, will start on October 1, 2022. Ace Bollywood star, Salman Khan will be hosting the show this season. The channel has also revealed that popular names from the world of entertainment have been selected as the contestants for the show.
Bigg Boss 16 will continue its original format of nominations and tasks on weekdays, whereas the Weekend ka vaar will be hosted by Salman Khan on Saturday and Sunday. The Telugu-language romantic drama, Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga, which was released in theatres in July 2022, will now be released online on Netflix. Fans can watch the film on the OTT platform from October 2, 2022.
Written and directed by Gireesaaya, Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga received negative reviews from critics whereby many called this a mish-mash of films seen before, so much so that a few sequences seem borrowed from previous blockbusters.
