Aashiqana S2 – Disney+ Hotstar

After the first successful season of Aashiqana, the makers of the Disney+ Hotstar original are all set to release the new season. The first season also premiered on the platform in June 2022 and received a lot of love, following which writer and director Gul Khan and team began working on the second season which will release soon.

Addressing the anticipation, makers have confirmed that the second season will once again see Yash and Chikki, who will be married, and the journey will unfold their new life. Zayn who portrays Yash will still be seen as a cop and the story of Aashiqana 2 will be completely different from the first season taking their romance to a new level.

Besides this, many new faces will also be seen in the show and the cast members have increased by a good number.

The Journey of India – Discovery+

Discovery Plus is known for presenting many one-of-a-kind documentary series and over the years, the platform has gained immense interest from the public. Celebrating India’s 75th Independence year, the platform has collaborated with Warner Bros. to present a new series titled ‘The Journey of India.’

Hosted by the legendary Big B, Amitabh Bachchan, this six-part series will include an eminent face who has earned accolades for their work and for making India famous. Reports state that the platform has unveiled its impressive roster of celebrities who will also be highlighting a significant issue in India’s development.

Names like Kajol, Rana Daggubati, Latika Nath, Amish Tripathi, Vikas Khanna, Hema Malini, AR Rahman, Anand Mahindra, Sanjeev Kapoor, Naina Lal Kidwai, Vani Murthy, Ritu Kumar, Rujuta Diwekar, and many others will be featured in the show.

Someone Borrowed – Netflix

Netflix’s upcoming release, Someone Borrowed, has received a positive response from the release of its trailer, for the fans have called it different and interesting.

Luiz is a bachelor and knows his dating game well. He is sure of not getting into a relationship ever, however, there comes a time when his mother announces the time limit, she has to live. All she wishes is for him to get married, however, his flings and girlfriends, despite asking for a favour to pretend as a fiancé, reject him.

To fulfil the same and to ensure he is still made a part of her will, Luiz hires an actress, Lina, who plays his fiancé. Time passes by and the lie gets stronger whereby he is able to convince his family about the relationship. However, things don’t go as planned further and the story takes the viewers through the events both Luiz and Lina go through.

Someone borrowed is written by Luanna Guimaraes and directed by Cris D’Amato.

The Watcher – Netflix

Written and directed by Chloe Okuno, the American psychological thriller, Watcher, premiered at Sundance Film Festival early this year. Zack Ford has given the original screenplay for the film which has received positive reviews so far from the festivals and viewers alike.

The Watcher revolves around the protagonist Julia who relocated to Bucharest with Francis, her husband, who has bagged a new job. The moving has been tough as she does not get much time with her husband and is not able to speak Romanian, owing to which she spends much time at the apartment. On a random day, while walking, she comes across police investigating a murder scene, the killer of which has been murdering women at their apartments.

This disturbs her daily life and soon she begins to see a man near her or following her at most of the times. Creeped out by this, Julia tells Francis and the two search for the man in the surveillance footage, however, the efforts lead to nothing concrete, so much so that the police fail to file a report stating that the case is not convincing. What follows is a mystery focus where viewers find out if these were random thoughts, illusion or was there something in real!

Sue Perkins: Perfectly Legal – Netflix

 

Celebrated personality, Sue Perkins’s new adventure of visiting Latin American countries and experiencing life in the most adventurous, shockingly legal and sometimes dangerous ways, is the crux of the upcoming Netflix show, Sue Perkins: Perfectly Legal.

The trailer of the show was released recently by the OTT platform and the description mentioned that she was going around “…South America to experience some of the most bizarre, unusual and shocking activities that are somehow perfectly legal in those countries.”

Sue is recognised as the host of the popular British TV show host of The Great British Bake Off, and with this new show, she will be facing the rules and conventions often set by the society which make people, especially women, in some cultures boxed in several ways. Living in a free manner is what people wish for and with this adventure, she will embark on a journey to unknown places, there explore cultures where women who wish to let their guard down, unfortunately, cannot do so, not even in their homes, all due to the so-called legal thoughts.

Netflix’s upcoming series starring Gizem Erdogan, Christian Hillborg, and Edvin Endre focuses on Swedish Tech entrepreneur, Daniel Ek, and business partner Martin Lorentzon, who aspiringly revolutionized the music industry by offering free and legal music streaming with their product, Spotify.

This came as a way to balance the arguments between piracy and industry leaders, and the solution with a streaming platform has calmed the turbulence in some fashion. However, the series sheds light on the unforeseen challenges that the team faced since the foundation.

Inspired by the book, Spotify Untold, written by Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud, this docu-drama miniseries is directed by Per-Olav Sørensen, developed by Luke Franklin, Written by Sofie and Tove Forsman.

Exception – Netflix

 

The upcoming Anime series on Netflix, Exception, is one of the most-awaited shows by the fans. For over a year, anime buffs have been excited about this horror sci-fi, the first look of which was released during Geeked Week 2022.

Netflix all set to release the first season of Exception, helmed by the award-winning novelist of Goth and ZOO.

Set against the backdrop of the distant future, human beings have to leave their land and migrate to another galaxy for which a team arrives on earth with the spacecraft. However, one has to be terraformed and for which a biological 3D printer will be needed. What follows is a series of interesting events of migration.

Reports state that a lot of thought and efforts have gone into designing and making the characters of Exception and credits are given to the legendary Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano, who has been behind the project.

Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu – Amazon Prime Video

 

Starring Tamil Superstar Silambarasan aka Simbu in the lead role, the first part of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is set to release on Amazon Prime Video. Presented as a gangster film, the team of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu includes eminent names like Director Gautham Vasudev Menon, writer B. Jeyamohan and legendary composer A. R. Rahman.

The film which released in the theatres on September 15, 2022, received positive reviews from both the critics and the audience. With impressive box office collections, trade analysts said that the film was a commercial success, observing which the team has planned a sequel which is already in development.

The story of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu revolves around science graduate Muthuveeran who hails from a village, Naduvakurichi. He is aggressive and often showcases impulsive behaviour, fearing which, his mother, Aaruthira takes him and his younger sister to their uncle, Chermadurai, with a hope to find a job. On a random day, his uncle received a phone call, and gives a letter to Muthu asking him to post it, and soon, he is found dead in his room, having committed suicide. What follows are events where Muthu finds out more about the letter, motive and the incidents associated with this.

Palthu Janwar – Disney+ Hotstar

The recently released Malayalam film, Palthu Janwar, directed by debutante Sangeeth P. Rajan, will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar after a successful theatrical run. Produced by the eminent Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran under the banner Bhavana Studios.

Palthu Janwar revolves around Prasoon, a professional livestock inspector, who is assigned a position in a Vetinary and Animal husbandry centre located in a rural village. He is an animator by passion, however, life forces him to take up this job and with little interest he agrees for the government job after a compassionate appointment. What follows then are events packed with joy and excitement and a new life which awaits him in his workplace.

The film garnered medicore reviews, however, made impressive collections of over 10 crores in comparison to the low budget production.

Buffoon – Netflix

 

Written and directed by Ashok Veerappan, Buffoon is a Tami language crime action film, which released in theatres on September 23, 2022. The film also marks Ashok’s directorial debut, and is produced by Karthik Subbaraj, Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, Sudhan Sundaram and Jayaram under his production banner of Stone Bench Films and Passion Studios.

The music of the film is given by Santhosh Narayanan and Dinesh Purushothaman has done the cinematography. Vetre Krishnan has edited the film.

Buffoon highlights the life of a powerful politician, Rangarajan, who confronts the party leader for MLA seat. Alternatively, he also plans to start a party if he is denied the seat. What follows is his attempts to make a mark politically, hook or crook. The journey showcases what he goes through to make it happen.

Nenu Meeku Baaga KavalsinaVadini – Aha

Telugu rom-com, Nenu Meeku Baaga Kavalsinavaadini, which was released in theatres on September 16, 2022, will now have its digital premiere on Aha Telugu. Directed by Sridhar Gadhe, the film is written by Kiran Abbavaram and stars himself in the lead role.

Nenu Meeku Baaga Kavalsinavaadini received a mixed response from the audience during its theatrical release.

The story revolves around the software engineer, Theju, who breaks up with his boyfriend and slips into depression. This, in turn, changes her equation with her family. She even becomes an alcoholic and her driver, Vivek, helps her every time she passes out. He takes care of the situation and drops her at her place. Upon knowing the extremes, he thinks of helping her get rid of these habits and negative situations, which becomes the plot of the film.

Mismatched S2 – Netflix

The first season of Netflix’s show, Mismatched, was a hit and fans have been waiting for the following season ever since. After a dramatic ending, the audience have been curious and in suspense to know about the turns which will change the life of the characters.

Catering to this excitement, the makers of Mismatched, have announced season 2 of the web series which will stream on Netflix. Based on When Dimple Met Rishi, the novel written by Indian-American author Sandhya Menon, the show revolves around Rishi Singh Shekhawat who is a firm believer in traditional dating and wishes Dimple Ahuja to be his future wife. However, after a rocky road relationship, they have taken different routes. Mismatches season 2 will now showcase new chemistry brewing between the characters.

Adapted by popular writer Gazal Dhaliwal, Mismatched is directed by Akarsh Khurana and Nipun Dharmadhikari, both known for their exemplary work in the television and digital content space. Set against the backdrop of 1980s Bombay, Shantaram revolves around Lin Ford, a fugitive who falls for an enigmatic woman. Known for not being able to avoid troubles, Lin has to make a decision now of either choosing a life with freedom or one to live with love and complications.

Created by Eric Warren Singer and Steve Lightfoot, the show is presented as a thriller television series created by based on the popular novel, Shantaram, penned by Gregory David Roberts, whereby he has drawn inspiration from his own life.

The ten-episode series focuses on a man who flees from Australia and moves to India hoping for a better life. Helmed by Justin Kurzel and Bharat Nalluri, Shantaram is produced by Anonymous Content and Paramount Television Studios. Eric Warren Singer was the first showrunner and was followed by Steve Lightfoot who joined the project after Eric quit.

Byomkesh Hotyamancha – Hoichoi

Directed by Arindam Sil and Written by Saradindu Bandhopadhyay, Byomkesh Hotyamancha is a film revolving around the popular detective Byomkesh Bakshi and his confidant Ajit. The duo, as always, dig deep into the case of love, betrayal, and infidelity; with a mission to solve it successfully.

Based on Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s, Bishupal Bodh, an incomplete work later developed and completed by Arindam and Padmanabha Dasgupta, Byomkesh Hotyamancha received mixed reviews at the box office. The screenplay for the film has been written by Padmanabha Dasgupta.

The film stars Abir Chatterjee who received immense love and accolades for his role in Karnasubarner Guptodhon, and is touted to become one of the major blockbusters in the Bengali film industry. His recent release, Byomkesh Hotyamancha, had its theatrical release in August 2022.

Trigger – Aha Tamil

Actor Atharvaa’s second film of 2022, Trigger, was released in theatres recently. The makers of the film, after receiving a not-so-positive response from the audience, are planning to release Trigger on Aha Tamil. Written and directed by Sam Anton, the film is the second collaboration of the actor and director, after the 2018 film 100.

Produced by Pramod Films and Miracle Movies, Trigger has mostly been shot in Chennai and Hyderabad. The music has been composed by Ghibran, and Krishnan Vasant has given the cinematography. The editing for the film has been done by Ruben.

The story of Trigger revolves around Prabhakaran, a cop, who gets to know that Nisha is kidnapped and taken to a warehouse by Aadi. His mission is now to save Nisha from Aadi, however, Aadi gets killed by some henchmen. He now learns the case only to find out that such kidnappings have been connected to an attack related to a 1993 issue at the police commissioner’s office, which his father Sathya Moorthy, a former cop had dealt with. What follows is a journey where the son tries to save his father from a tight spot faced due to a tragic incident.

Unstoppable 2 – Aha Telugu

Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, Aha Video’s popular Telugu talk show, Unstoppable With NBK, is back with another season. Hosted by Nandamuri Balakrishna (NBK), the show has received a lot of appreciation from the audience, and owing to its popularity, the OTT platform renewed it for the second season.

While the first season concluded with Mahesh Babu as the guest, on February 4, 2022, the second season will begin on October 14, 2022, with his family members i.e., brother-in-law Chandrababu Naidu and son-in-law Nara Lokesh as the guests. Sharing the details, the platform, took to Twitter to make the announcement official on October 12, 2022.

SonyLIV’s new show, Good Bad Girl, is set to stream on the platform from October 14, 2022. Set against a backdrop of black comedy, the show was announced during the platform’s second-anniversary celebration in June 2020.

The Curse of Bridge Hollow – Netflix

Directed by Jeff Wadlow, Netflix’s new presentation, The Curse of Bridge Hollow, is about a daughter and father who join hands to save their town after it faces the havoc and chaos spread by an ancient and mischievous spirit.

Halloween decorations take life and the girl soon realised the presence of the mischievous spirit on Halloween. As much as they don’t want to get involved, she must team up with her father, Marlon Wayans, considered to be the last man in town who would involve himself in such a situation. He is a science teacher who has no belief in anything supernatural, but to save everyone from Brooklyn to Bridge Hollow, he has to participate in a curse that has been unleashed accidentally.

Written by Todd Berger, Robert Rugan and John R. Morey; The Curse of Bridge Hollow is releasing a few weeks before the awaited Halloween season. Makers present the movie as a spooky family entertainer.

Dobaaraa – Netflix

Taapsee Pannu starrer Hindi-language mystery drama, Dobaaraa, is all set to stream on Netflix, after receiving positive reviews from the theatrical screening.

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the film has been adapted in Hindi by Nihit Bhave, and is a remake of the 2018 Spanish movie, Mirage. Dobaaraa was released in theatres on August 19, 2022, and despite positive reviews, it did not make an impressive collection at the box office.

Dobaaraa revolves around a woman who lands an opportunity to save the life of a child. A 12-year-old boy witnesses death during a thunderstorm which occurred over two-and-a-half decades back and the two are connected via a television set, in the present time zone, coincidentally during a similar storm. Mysterious as it sounds, the woman must save someone’s life by facing unexpected consequences.

Critics appreciated both Pannu’s performance and the story of Dobaaraa by claiming the film to be multi-layered, dark and exciting. The plot is said to be interesting enough to keep the viewers hooked on to the screen who will oscillate between timelines. Anurag Kashyap’s storytelling has been called ‘edge-of-the-seat and worth watching.’

Netflix’s upcoming presentation, Under the Queen’s Umbrella, is one such show, focusing on a queen’s rowdy sons and their journey to being selected as the next king of Joseon.

The princes are troublemakers and for one of them to be chosen as king, they have to learn to behave, live and rule in the right way with the right manners.  They are known to add problems to the royal family’s life, however, their mother, Queen Im Hwa Ryeong, is in search of the next Kind. She herself is prickly, sensitive, and hot-tempered, instead of being a woman with elegance and grace. Known to abandon her pride, she now has to fill her life with trials thereby withstanding several aspects for her children.

Under the Queen’s Umbrella is set to premiere on October 15, 2022, on the Korean network and will simultaneously air on Netflix across selected regions.
