New Redmi entry-level phone in works, could be better version of Redmi A1

  • Redmi is reported working on a new entry-level phone
  • The model number of the device is 23026RN54G
  • It appears to be a better version of the Redmi A1

A new Redmi phone with entry-level specifications is in the works, claims a report by Xiaomiui. The publication has spotted a new device with model number 23026RN54G in the database of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). At present, there is no information available on the final marketing name of the device. The report suggests that it could be an improved version of the existing Redmi A1 / A1 Plus entry-level phones.

One of the FCC documents shown below shows the difference between Redmi phones with model numbers 23026RN54G and 220733SL. The latter belongs to the Redmi A1. The main difference between the two phones is that the 23026RN54G device has a better chipset.

The other screenshot shows that the 23026RN54G phone is a variant of the original Redmi A1. Hence, it appears that apart from featuring a different chipset on the 23026RN54G, the rest of the specs could be identical on both models.

The FCC listing confirms that the 23026RN54G device will have the Helio P35 chip. As is known, the A1 is powered by the modest Helio A22 SoC. It goes without saying that the 23026RN54G will deliver better performance than the A1.

The publication has scoured through the MIUI code of the device and found that it will run on MIUI 14, whereas the FCC listing reveals that it will offer an Android 13 OS experience. The codename of the device is “water.” The report speculates that the device will go on sale in a month or two. It will be available in both the global and Indian markets.

According to the report, the Redmi A1 may have received a poor sales response, prompting the company to refurbish existing units and resell them. The main changes on the new device include a new chipset and the latest software. It is unclear whether its design will be different from the A1.

To recall, the Redmi A1 has a 6.52-inch IPS LCD HD+ display, a 5-megapixel front camera, and an 8-megapixel dual-camera setup on the back. The Helio A22-powered device offers 3GB of RAM, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, Android 12 Go edition, and a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging support. The Redmi A1 Plus, which debuted a few weeks after the A1, packs the same specs and offers a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
