A new voice assistant called ‘Hey Disney’ has been launched by Amazon and Disney. The product was demonstrated live at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023. In a blog post, Amazon said that this “first-of-its-kind” voice assistant would access a “wide range of Disney magic” through Echo devices, as well as complimentary services at select Disney Resorts hotels.

Soundscapes, games, and more!

Hey Disney also comes with Soundscapes in addition to games and bedtime stories. The soundtrack plays ambient music and sound effects that are themed to a movie location, but not from any existing movie soundtracks. Ewoks run past you as you sit on the forest moon of Endor while a Star Wars soundscape plays. You can also listen to a soundscape that makes you feel like you are walking in the Magic Kingdom, listening to other tourists as a trolley and steam train go by.

The company constructed this experience using Alexa Custom Assistant, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform that allows it to build its own voice assistant that works with Alexa. “This new voice assistant, termed the ‘Disney Magical Companion’, is the voice of Hey Disney,” Amazon added.

US customers will reportedly be able to purchase this upcoming service in about a month. The service will be accessible through Echo smart speakers at home and in Disney Resort hotels. It will also support Disney’s MagicBand+, which is a smart, interactive wearable device “that allows visitors to interact with shows, enter the park, and more” at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort.

The “Hey Disney! the voice assistant is a first-of-its-kind voice assistant that continues Disney’s tradition of providing cool, convenient experiences,” said Dan Soto, vice president of technology and digital at Disney.
