Google had announced a few days back that a new Android Go smartphone will launch at MWC 2018. At the global launch event held by HMD Global yesterday, Nokia introduced the all new Nokia 1 smartphone, an Android Go device at a budget price. Android Go is an optimized version of the full-fledged operating system with lite apps for a seamless experience. So consumers would get good hardware with quality software at a low price. For the global market, the phone is priced at $85 which roughly translates to Rs. 5,500.

The Nokia 1 has now become the most affordable smartphone made by HMD Global. It sits below the budget phone Nokia 2 which costs around Rs. 7000 in India. The brand offers Xpress-on two-tone polycarbonate covers for Nokia 1 which are available in many different shades such as Azure, Grey, Yellow and Pink. Users can customize how their phone looks by changing this thin and stylish cover. Each one of it costs just $7.99 which roughly amounts to Rs. 520. Originally, the phone can be bought in two colours: Dark Blue and Warm Red.

The budget smartphone comes with a 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS display. Although this is a small screen, you can expect great battery backup as an advantage. It comes with a 2150mAh battery unit which is removable. In terms of performance, the Nokia 1 packs in a MediaTek MT6737M which is paired with 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Considering the specifications, it can withstand daily usage with ease but you can’t expect heavy gaming or multi-tasking out of the phone. There’s a 5-megapixel camera along with an LED flash on the back. On the front, you get a 2-megapixel fixed focus selfie camera.

The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) which will occupy less space than the original OS. It will still retain all the essential features and allow users to experience a wholesome software experience. There’s 8GB of internal storage provided in the phone. The OS and the apps will occupy comparatively lesser space in the phone providing more storage to the user. The storage is also expandable via a microSD card up to 128GB.

We can also expect more Android Go smartphones by other brands to launch in the week spanning MWC 2018, stay tuned to know about them.
