The Nokia 5.1 Plus was unveiled in August 2018 alongside the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The 5.1 Plus is the rebranded version of the Nokia X5 that’s sold in China. The company today announced that the device will be available for purchase from October 1st at a price of Rs 10,999. The Nokia 5.1 Plus will be sold exclusively on Flipkart and Nokia’s own e-store. The device is available in three color variants i.e. Gloss Black, Gloss White and Gloss Midnight Blue.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus is a toned down variant of the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The device rocks a 5.8-inch bezel-less display with a notch on the top. The display features a 19:9 aspect ratio, HD+ resolution and 2.5D curved glass. There is a face recognition feature and fingerprint scanner as well for unlocking the device. In terms of hardware, the 5.1 Plus is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 chipset coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage. The storage is expandable up to 400GB via a microSD card.
In the camera department, the Nokia 5.1 Plus bears a dual rear camera setup of 13+5MP sensors accompanied by LED flash. The cameras feature electronic video stabilisation that helps users record smooth and steady videos. There is a 8MP front snapper for selfies. The 5.1 Plus offers AI enhancements and a bokeh effect.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus is backed by a 3,060 mAh battery unit. The device is part of the Android One family. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo and offers a clutter-free UI experience. Users can expect guaranteed and timely OS updates, including an update to Android Pie. Connectivity options on the 5.1 Plus include 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB-Type C and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Given the price, the Nokia 5.1 Plus looks impressive in terms of design and specifications. It will be interesting to see how the device competes against other sub-10k phones in the market like RXiaomi Redmi Note 5, Honor 9 Lite etc.
