Nokia 6 was launched as a mid-budget smartphone last year. HMD Global has began this year with the launch of its upgraded version which is termed as the Nokia 6 (2018) version. The phone was subjected to a lot of rumours and leaks that hinted towards a possible launch early this year. It is currently launched only in China but the Indian launch is very likely, most probably in the next few weeks.
On the design front, there are a lot of noticeable differences when compared to its older variant. The home button and capacitive navigation keys, both of which were on the front are now gone. The fingerprint scanner which was previously located on the home button is now on the rear. Whereas the navigation keys are displayed on-screen through software. But the bezels on the front are still intact and the screen aspect ratio is still 16:9, which means this isn’t a bezel-less phone. Thus, the decision to remove buttons on the front seems a bit confusing. The phone has a metal unibody design made of 6000 series aluminium, which is appreciable for a phone in this price range. The device is available in two-different colours: Black and Silver.
The Nokia 6 (2018) fits a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display bearing a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. As mentioned earlier, the screen aspect ratio of this phone is 16:9. It comes out of the box with Android 7.1.2 Nougat but the phone is expected to receive Android 8.0 Oreo pretty soon. It is powered by a Snapdragon 630 chipset clocked at 2.2GHz. The processor is coupled with 4GB of RAM to aid in smoother multi-tasking. There are two variants of the phone when it comes to internal storage: 32GB and 64GB. But you can still expand the storage up to 128GB with the help of a microSD card.
In terms of camera, there’s a 16-megapixel rear sensor fitted along with a dual-tone LED flash. It has an f/2.0 aperture which will help in clicking good low-light pictures. Even the 8-megapixel selfie camera on the front has the same aperture. Keeping up with the trend of all the other Nokia phones launched in 2017, this one has a ‘Bothie’ feature too. It lets you capture pictures and videos from the front and rear camera simultaneously.
The Nokia 6 (2018) has a decent 3000mAh battery that should get you through the day. It also has support for fast charging. Connectivity-wise, the phone has got 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB Type-C and a 3.5mm audio jack.
In China, the phone is priced at CNY 1499 (~ Rs. 14,600) for the 32GB variant and CNY 1,699 (~ Rs. 16,600) for the 64GB variant. Pre-orders for the phone have already begun and it will go on sale starting January 10th. We’ll keep you informed about Nokia 6’s (2018) India launch so stay tuned!
